Her thoughts began to slowly come back into focus. She didn’t know what had happened, but she knew her exit was very fast with a very painful stop.
Her mind was already tripling … no, quadrupling what Ranma owed her.
“She should be up in a few moments,” said a female voice … in English.
Could Saotome’s little box be some sort of path between Japan and North America—if she was placing that accent correctly? If it was, that meant that box was worth a fortune. Hell, the shipping fees many companies would save would be worth billions, since she would charge … fifty percent of that for starters.
“How’s her injuries?” came a new male voice.
“Well, the concussion’s healed, and we’re bringing her out of the medically induced coma now. The rest of her injuries seem to be either healed of near it.”
Concussion? Injuries? How long was I out? I need to know how much to charge Ranma!
“Should we get Ranma in here?” asked a new male voice.
“I do believe Saotome is meditating at this moment,” came a deep male voice.
“Ah, keeping himself cool, calm, and collected,” said one of the male voices.
“One of us should go get him.”
“I nominate Teal’c.”
“You just don’t want to get thrown across the room again.”
“Well … yeah.”
“Then I shall go,” said the baritone male.
She could hear the footsteps of someone leaving, most likely the baritone male leaving to fetch Ranma and bring him back. She did have to hand him some credit; at least he wasn’t sitting by her bedside like a whipped little puppy.
It didn’t mean she was going to charge him less.
“So,” said one of the two remaining male voices, “what are the bets up to?”
“Odds are still 3:1 that he was exaggerating on how like the Goa’uld she is.”
Bets?
“Gentlemen, please,” said the female voice, the likely doctor among them.
“Sorry,” they said.
The woman was silent for a moment, before she made one last comment. “Besides, no one could be as much of a … pain as he made her out to be.”
Oh yes, Saotome would pay for that.
