[Episode 208523]Daria smiled a bit to herself as she finished, “You have more traumatic ‘memories’ back in your mysterious past. I understand. Dropping that subject immediately, what was your line of questioning about Ms. Barch?”
Ranma thought out, “I was wondering if anyone in my class would mind if I tried to wind her up. I’m not in any athletics courses and I don’t need, I think you call it a ‘bye’. And, unlike Mack, she can’t just kick me off the team anyway because, again, I’m not ON one. In short, I figure it is time to give Barch a main target so everyone else can actually try to have a science class instead of a hate-crime refresher course.”
Daria wearily asked, “I’ll bite. What did she do to set you off, and is there any chance of talking you down?”
Ranma’s voice was cheerful as he shot back, “What do you think? The woman picks only science that makes males sound like the scum of the earth, she basically scuttles her own course to do so, and the way she tries to emasculate these guys is going to make the next brutal misogynist. Ohm, that was the right term, I hope. I think that’s a jerk that hates women just because they are women. And Barch, let’s see, is a misandrist.”
Daria smirked, “You forgot how DeMartino acts like a raging misanthrope to keep it from really becoming the case. As far as I can tell, he does it for that reason and to keep Kevin awake.”
Ranma groaned and said, “So that means someone that hates all people, I got it. Since you’re joking a bit, in your way at least, I guess you trust me to at least know when to bail out. I’m overwhelmed by your trust.” His jocular tone held a sub-stratum that indicated he wasn’t really joking at all.
Daria blushed and changed the subject. “On the home front, I am definitely going to the party. You can thank my sister finding out about the invitation and deciding I couldn’t go since I’d ruin it for her. Honestly, I don’t know why she’s so insecure about things like that. I avoid her and her circle of friends, which she cultivates in the first place to avoid me. Until she’s ready to accept me as part of her life, I’m fine with that. To make a tale of woe and sibling rivalry short, she tried to get my parents to bar me from the party and it backfired. I think I actually have to go now, not that I care; I planned on it the moment Quinn claimed it for herself. Avoidance is one thing, being pushed is quite another.”
Ranma decided to change the subject himself, to draw her from hardening feelings over the issue. “In any event, meet me at my place before we go to this party. I’m going to see just why jocks are considered the backwater of the gene pool, and I don’t want to face that horror alone.” He thought, Of course, it’s also the easy way to spring my surprise on you. Oh, well, anything goes.
Ranma shrugged. "We could just take my car, I guess."
Two teenaged girls blinked at their male comrade in surprise, though the spectacle-wearing brunette spoke up first. "We can take your car? You have a car?"
The pigtailed teen nodded. "Yeah, I have a car. I found it the other day when I finally got around to checking out the garage." He strolled over to the kitchen counter and plucked a set of keys off of a hook before waving for the female duo to follow him out to the front. "Come and have a look!"
In short order the dynamic trio were standing expectantly in front of the garage door, and with a flourish, Ranma poked the button on the garage door opener, setting the roller-door to slowly rumble up into the ceiling.
When the car was revealed, Daria's eyebrows rose noticeably in silent surprise, while Jane openly gaped at the familiar-looking machine. "There is no way! Is that seriously..."
Daria nodded. "Looks like it. It's black, not red, but that's definitely-"
Jane cut her compadre off as a wicked grin spread across her face. "It’s a 1961 Ferrari 250 GT California. Oh yeah..." In an almost ecstatic state, Jane bounced over to the passenger side door, popped it open, and almost gingerly slid onto the pristine leather seat, carefully pulling the door shut before settling back into the plush leather with a groan of pleasure. "Oh god; please tell me we can take this car..."
Ranma watched as the hedonistic artiste basically snuggled with her seat. He grinned, “I don’t mind walking, but I figured this would get us past the gate check much more easily. So, yes, we are going to take the car. But I want you to explain this to me by the time we get there!”
