It turned out that Ranma was correct about the car easing their way into the party. The guard at the gate simply glanced at the very expensive automobile and decided that whoever could afford something like that probably belonged in the place he was guarding.
“Okay people, chin up, nose up, let’s go,” said Jane as the group reached the front door of Britney’s house.
Soon after ringing the bell the door was opened by the hostess, or as this particular group thought of her, the most viable argument for brain transplant experimentation to date.
“Daria, I’m so glad you came, now we’re even,” said Brittney in her usual high pitched and vacant voice as she opened the door. “Ranma I didn’t know you were coming.”
“The football players want me on the team, so they’re trying to bribe me with your food and home,” said Ranma. “This is Jane, she’s a friend that we brought along.”
“Hmm, I don’t know.”
“She’s good in art,” said Daria.
“But I have you for that. How are you in Geomitry?”
“Lots of circles, squares, and triangles,” said Jane, easly listing everything she knew about the subject in under a minute.
“Wow, come on in,” said Brittney, greatly impressed by the other girls knowledge.
Ranma took five steps into the house when he saw something that caused him to break out in a cold sweat. All around were very lifelike ceramic tigers, and for some reason they were causing him a near panic attack.
“Hey Ranma,” said Mac as he crossed the room to greet his friends. “Don’t you love the tigers?”
“Only if your definition of love is the complete opposite of the one I’ve been using,” said Ranma.
“Are you okay?” asked Daria as she took a good look at her friend.
“The tigers are really freaking me out, but I don’t know why.”
“Is this pineapple level of freaking out, or about to create a tornado level of freaking out?” asked Jane.
“Closer to tornado than pineapple,” admitted Ranma.
“Oh look, food,” said Jane as she pointed to where all the food was. “Just look over there and focus on the food. Food is good; food will not lead to the destruction of this house and everyone in it.”
“Thanks Jane,” said Ranma, the artists sense of humor putting him more at ease.
Unfortunately Daria, Jane, and Mac weren’t the only ones that had heard Ranma’s confession of how the tigers made him feel. One of the football players that Ranma had run circles around. Standing behind one of the tigers between Ranma and the food table the football player pushes the fake cat and gives a realistic growl just as Ranma passed under it.
