"As a general rule, the Amazon people are instructed to avoid those under the Fate," Cologne explained to Ranma and the others. "We consider it to be a curse far crueler than Jusenkyo and not only do we not want to lose anymore bloodlines to it than we have already, we would like to avoid being noticed by whatever power is behind it."
"So why come here?" Ranma asked. "Why not just pack up and go home?"
Cologne smiled.
"That's exactly what I should have done," she admitted. "However, I've grown fond of you, Ranma. You're the most fun this old woman has had in years. I came because I wanted to help you. I'm offering to teach you what I can and help you adjust to the changes you must be experiencing."
"Changes?" Ranma asked.
"Let me ask you this: Ranma, have you found yourself reacting more violently in a fight than you are accustomed to?" Cologne asked.
Ranma thought about the fights he had been in. He hadn't noticed it at the time because he had attributed it to him reacting to the situation and what his father had told him, but looking back, he had definitely been a lot more brutal than what he normally would have been. Using the Amaguriken on Taishiji, hitting that punk Hanno with a Mouko Takabisha, the brutal way he had taken out those punks that had attacked him yesterday—he was definitely fighting much more ruthlessly than he used to.
"Now that you mention it, I guess I have been," Ranma agreed. "I haven't had a lot of choice though. There's a lot of lethal intent around here."
"Agreed, some of it has been you adjusting to your situation," Cologne nodded. "However, we noticed that when our own people have run afoul of the fate, they became increasingly violent, sometimes bloodthirsty, and we were able to determine that it was the influence of the warrior soul contained in the magatama."
"So you're saying this thing is gonna turn me in to a homicidal maniac?" Ranma asked, alarmed.
"Perhaps—depending on how strong your will and the nature of the soul trapped in the magatama," Cologne said. "You have to understand, these souls are warriors from one of China's most bloody periods, similar to your Bakamatsu. Even the more benevolent ones would be considered brutal killers by modern standards. Whether you like it or not, your subconscious decisions will be influenced to some degree by the soul you carry—especially in battle when you react without thought to an attack."
There were more people than just Ranma at the table that considered this new insight.
"Believe it or not, I have a great deal of respect for you, Ranma," Cologne continued. "You've endured a lot at the hands of your idiot father and still managed to maintain a kind heart. That's why I'm here. I want to help ensure that you don't turn into something you can't live with."
"What about Shampoo and Mousse?" Ranma asked.
"They will be returning home after saying their goodbyes," Cologne informed him.
Ouin Shishi, more commonly known as Saji Genpo, was not a happy camper. Granted, he lay in a futon in the middle of his mortal enemy's encampment, being secretly 'nursed' back to health by a girl that loved him and also happened to be the one responsible for the beating that put him here, but that was all according to his plan. His plan was to divide the loyalties of Ryofuu Hosen and eventually drive her to kill Totaku Chuuei in a paranoid effort to eliminate him before he eliminated her.
However, what wasn't going according to plan was the new fighter that had shown up. According to Ryofuu, he was very skilled—easily an A-ranked fighter—and had links to both the Sho Haou and Seito Private School. Thus far he had stopped an attempt on the Sho Haou's life and defeated the top fighters from Yoshuu who had been sent after him in retaliation.
Worst of all, it seemed that this new guy was fouling up his plan to bring out the Sho Haou's dragon and then subsequently gain control over it. He couldn't have shown up at a worse time, now that Ouin was necessarily out of the picture. He couldn't very well even send his pawn Kannei after the guy since according to Ryofuu's report, Kannei would be little more than a nuisance to the new guy.
His only hope was that Totaku was finding this new player as troublesome as Ouin did and would do something foolish in an effort to crush him. Unfortunately, that something might be sending Ryofuu to take care of him personally and if the fight went badly, then his chosen weapon to remove Totaku would be useless.
Ukitsu was intrigued. She had been watching Sonsaku, waiting until the time was right to fulfill her fate and kill the Sho Haou in battle for some time now. She had noticed when Sonsaku's new cousin had arrived, but hadn't thought anything of it. After last night, he was all she could think about.
She had been watching Sonsaku's house when she saw Kanu and Chou'un arrive. While noteworthy, it wasn't too much of a concern. She'd seen Chou'un a few times as they both had the house under observation during the last week, so that wasn't really uncommon. But then she had heard the news that Sonsaku's younger cousin had annihilated the majority of Yoshuu Academy's top ranked fighters when they attempted to assassinate him.
Curious, Ukitsu had followed them with Sonsaku's cousin, Kanu, and Chou'un left together a little later on what appeared to be a date. She had then witnessed what had occurred in the park. It was probably the hottest thing she had ever seen in her life. She was lucky she hadn't fallen out of the tree she was watching from when her hand found its way between her legs, under her sopping panties, and busily fingered her to her own climax.
And then there was the boy in the yellow shirt and bandana that stumbled across them. He gaped at what was going on for about ten seconds before his nose exploded in a jet of blood, his eyes rolled up in the back of his head, and he passed out without the lovers ever having noticed he was there. It was all Ukitsu could do to not fall to the ground laughing when Kanu had tossed the torn shirt she had used to clean herself and Chou'un up into the bushes where it landed with a faint splat across the unconscious boy's face.
Her dreams that night had been very pleasant indeed and she couldn't stop thinking about what it would be like to let this Ranma guy screw her into an orgasmic coma like he had Chou'un. Of course the older cousin was pretty hot too and had the benefit of being unclaimed. Maybe sexual prowess ran in the family?
This situation was causing Ukitsu some distress since not only was it at odds with her mission—there would be almost no chance of getting either stud to bed her after she killed their cousin—but it was also making her lose her focus on her task since the minute she let her mind wander it got lost in ecchi fantasies featuring one or both Sonsaku's cousins.
"Regrets, Kanu-san?" Chou'un asked as they rode the train back to Seito.
Kanu had been unusually quiet and pensive since they left Ranma's home.
"More like doubts," Kanu sighed. "I'm not sure this is a good idea."
"Ranma-sama seems up to the challenge," Chou'un smirked.
"That's not what I meant and you know it," Kanu said, smiling in spite of herself. "It's just that things are moving much faster than I expected. And I really don't know what I was thinking when I asked him to attend the Tournament with me. Ekitoku is going to be frothing at the mouth that he gets to go and she doesn't."
"Chouhi-san will understand," Chou'un offered. "She knows that someone has to look after Gentoku-sama while you're at the tournament."
"What about you?" Kanu asked. "I assume you'll be providing Ma-chan backup in case he's attacked again?"
"If I am able," Chou'un confirmed with a sly smile. "Don't worry, Kan-chan, I won't try to steal him all for myself."
Kanu snorted at that, but at the same time, she felt surprisingly relieved to hear it.
