"Why don't you try to sleep, Akane?" Ranko asked.
"I can't, Ranko," Akane sighed. "How can I sleep when I know that P-chan is out there, confused, and not even familiar with his - or her - new form?"
"Look, I'll talk to my mother in the morning, and she will cast a retrieving spell - I'm afraid I'm not too good with those - and we will find her. Trust me!"
"Well, okay, but what will happen to her in the meantime? She will be all alone and scared and cold and..."
"Hey, you told me yourself that he gets lost quite often, so I wouldn't worry," Ranko said. "And do you honestly believe that somebody in the neighborhood would harm a cute girl like her?"
Akane could come up with quite a few weirdos in Nerima, but she had to admit that even Kuno was a gentleman... a fool, and a pervert, true, but still a gentleman. If P-chan would happen to come across the Kuno mansion, Tatewaki wouldn't just let any helpless, young girl stay on the street, that much was certain.
A bit more relaxed, Akane turned around and tried to get some sleep. After all, Auntie Nodoka would be able to find P-chan in the morning...
Kodachi Kuno growled angrily as she came back home. "How... how dare that red-headed witch turn me into a low animal?" she ranted. "I am a lady of the house of Kuno... and not some common field rabbit! The nerve, the... SASUKE!" she yelled. "Your mistress has come home! Where are you, servant?"
When no one responded, Kodachi ran into the kitchen, the place where Sasuke normally had his duties in the evening. "Sasuke, when I call for you, you will... huh?" She blinked. "Who are you? You're not Sasuke..."
The raven-haired, pig-tailed girl took a swig of the cola bottle she had just taken out of the fridge and then smirked at the gymnast. "Oh, hey there! You want a drink as well?"
"Who are you?" Kodachi repeated. "What do you think you are doing, invading the sacred home of Kuno? Put that back at once, you thief!"
The strange girl (who looked a bit younger than Kodachi) grimaced and stepped back from the fridge. "Geeze, I expected a warmer welcome here... cousin!"
"What... what are you suggesting, you little... I don't have any cousins, especially not rude little girls that barge in unannounced..."
"Guess again," the other girl grinned. "My name's Kyoko, and I'm your mother's sister's only child. Nice to meetcha, cousin!"
"My father never mentioned any relatives of my mother," Kodachi shouted. "You are a brazen liar, now get out of my house!" And with one single motion, Kodachi held out her gymnastics ribbon.
Kyoko put down her cola on the kitchen table and sighed. "So Mom was right... lunacy REALLY runs in the family. Well, if you want to play like this..." She smirked up at the older girl. "Taolf pu ot eht gniliec!"
And Kodachi felt herself being lifted up by invisible hands, until she floated freely under the ceiling. "What... what is this?" she shouted. She flailed around with her limbs, but that didn't help much. "What did you do to me? Release me at once!"
Kyoko chuckled. "Sure, when you've calmed down..."
"How did you do this? You witch!"
Kyoko raised her thumb. "Ding ding ding, that's correct! We have a winner here!"
Kodachi snarled. "That just proves that you can't be a member of the house of Kuno... no Kuno could ever be an evil witch!"
"Boy, you sure are thick, aren't you?" Kyoko grumbled. "Well, whatever, I'm not here to fight with you... I'm just here because of my rival, Ranko Saotome."
Kodachi stopped flailing. "Did you say... Saotome?"
"That's right," Kyoko growled. "That Saotome bitch, who always gets everything I've desired... a broom, a boyfriend... and I always go away empty-handed. I've wanted to teach her a lesson for a long time... but now she went and left for Nerima." The pig-tailed witch shrugged. "So I've come after her. A good coincidence that I have actually relatives here I can stay with, huh?"
"You certainly won't stay here!" Kodachi shouted. "I forbid it!"
"Now what is all this racket, keiki?" a heavily-accented voice spoke up when Kodachi's father, the head loony himself, Principal Kuno, stuck his head into the kitchen. He grinned when he saw his daughter. "Oh, so you've met Kyoko, eh?"
"Father, tell that... that brat to release me!" Kodachi demanded.
"She was being naughty," Kyoko smirked. "I had to punish her."
"Ah, yer one smart keiki, Kyoko," the principal grinned. "Dat's right, always keep the delinquents."
"Father, I am your daughter, and most certainly NOT a delinquent!" Kodachi shouted. "How can you side with that... that interloper?"
The principal smirked. "Simple, she's my darling little niece. She an' her mother have come for a visit, see? And lil' Kyoko will be staying in your room."
"What...? MY room...? Her MOTHER? But..."
A middle-aged woman in a black dress entered the kitchen. "Is there something wrong, Kyoko?"
Immediately, Kyoko put up a big smile and looked at the woman innocently. "No, Mom! Kodachi and I are just getting to know each other."
Kyoko's mother smiled. "That's nice to hear, dear! How are you doing, Kodachi? It's so nice to finally meet the daughter of my only sister..."
Kodachi could only stare. The woman looked so much like her departed mother... she HAD to be her aunt. But that meant automatically...
"You... you actually ARE my cousin?" she blurted out and looked down at Kyoko. "But... HOW CAN THIS BE? This is an outrage... how could you let your daughter become a witch?" she demanded to know.
Her aunt frowned. "I am a witch too, you know? And Kyoko's personal teacher, as well."
Kodachi sank her head. "Well, how do the commoners say? 'That's just peachy...'"
"Well, dat certainly went better than I thought it would," the principal grinned. "Now that Kochi and her little cousin get along with each other just fine, we only have to tell Tachi..."
Kodachi groaned. THAT was going to be nasty...
"Maybe we all should sit down together and have some dinner," Kyoko's mother suggested.
Kyoko licker her lips. "Sounds great! I'm sick of all the newt stew and spider silk bread..."
"Oh, and Kyoko-chan?"
"Yes, Mom?"
Her mother smiled. "Please be a dear and get Kodachi down from there."
"Aw, you're no fun, Mom... well, okay!" She grinned. "Emoc gnillaf nwod!"
To Kodachi's great dismay, she felt how gravity kicked in. A second later, she hit the floor head-first.
Her young witch cousin snickered. "That was fun! Can I go back out and play with the alligator, Mommy?"
"Of course you can... but don't tease the poor thing again, you hear?"
"What do you take me for, Mom?" Kyoko said innocently while crossing her fingers behind her back.
