Ranma scowled petulantly as he stood beside his cousins with his arms crossed over his chest. The reason for his grumpy disposition was standing about thirty feet away.
"Stupid, hardheaded, crazy chick," Ranma muttered to himself as he watched Kanu face off against Kakoton Genjo for Seito's first match against Kyosho.
When she announced that she would be fighting the first match, Ranma immediately objected because of her broken arm. Kanu had scoffed, saying she was a Fighter and she could beat a fighter of Kakoton's rank even if she had two broken arms. Ranma had tried insisting that she let him deal with it, but Kanu had pulled rank on him.
"I am second only to Ryuubi Gentoku in Seito's chain of command," Kanu had informed him. "I will fight this match, so unless you intend to try and stop me, just back off."
Ranma was tempted to do just that, but something in her eyes told him it would be the end of their relationship. That was something he wasn't willing to risk just yet, so he threw up his hands in aggravation and stomped away to stand sulkily with the other spectators.
Of course, Ranma wasn't the only one unhappy with the situation.
"I can't fight you," Kakoton protested. "You've got a broken arm. That just wouldn't be right."
"Then forfeit," Kanu replied confidently. "Because the reality is, not being able to use my arm doesn't change the fact that my fighting skill far exceeds your own."
"Fine then," Kakoton huffed. "But don't expect me to go easy on you."
"You'd be a fool if you did," Kanu replied calmly and then looked at the referee. "Begin the match."
"If you say so," the ref shrugged. "Seito Private School versus Kyosho Academy. First match begin!"
Chou'un crouched on top of a warehouse watching as Kanu fought Kyosho's fighter. Even with a broken arm, Chou'un was confident that Kanu would defeat him. She had to smile at Ranma's evident concern for Kanu though and the way he pouted when Kanu had pulled rank on him was adorable.
"So, girl, why aren't you down there with your boyfriend?"
Chou'un turned to see the shriveled, old crone perched on her staff. She wasn't surprised by the old woman's presence since she had noted her approach some time ago.
"Sometimes you can see more from a distance," Chou'un replied. "Why are you not down there with the others?"
"A view that seems to be shared by many around here," Cologne smirked, glancing over at another rooftop on which another girl stood observing those below. "As for me, I prefer not to advertise my presence here. Your friend down there is certainly impressive."
Chou'un turned her attention back to the fight were Kanu was systematically beating her opponent down and nodded.
"Kanu Unchou is a great warrior," Chou'un replied. "The boy will be defeated."
Any thoughts that this would be an unfair fight were quickly knocked from Kakoton's head by Kanu's foot. He staggered backward and shook his head to clear it just in time to block another incoming kick. Pain shot up his arm from the force of the impact but he managed to throw a counter punch with his other arm.
Kanu leaned to the side and lashed out with lightning speed, grabbing Kakoton's wrist, blasting him with a brutal kick to the kidneys and another to the back of his head before releasing his wrist. Kakoton staggered forward and fell on his hands and knees as his ears rang from the headshot.
"Come on, Ton-chan!" Goei urged from the sidelines. "Get up! Get up and kick her little ass!"
"Man," Ouso commented to Kakuka, "Kakoton is getting his ass kicked by chick with a broken arm."
"What did you expect?" Kakuka shrugged. "She's Kanu Unchou. She's way out of Kakoton's league."
Kanu stood a short distance away with her hand on her hip as she waited to see if the boy would get up. She wasn't disappointed when Kakoton struggled to his feet.
"Okay, that's it," he growled. "No more mister nice guy."
Kakoton was thinking furiously. If he had any chance to win this, he had to start fighting smarter. Glancing at the cast on her arm a plan occurred to him. He wasn't normally one to use such a weakness to win a fight, but he had to admit to himself that he was going to lose if things kept going the way they were.
As soon as he was on his feet, Kakoton attacked, throwing kicks and punches to keep Kanu on the defensive. Soon the moment he was waiting for arrived as she turned to the side to avoid a punch, leaving her good arm on the far side of her body from him. Kakoton immediately lashed out with a kick aimed at her head.
A loud cracking sound made everyone gasp as the looked on the frozen tableau before them. Kakoton stood with his leg extended and a shocked look on his face. His leg had been stopped by Kanu's cast-sporting arm. He was shocked because he had assumed that she would want to protect the injury and wouldn't risk blocking his kick with that arm.
Suddenly, the cast shattered and fell away from Kanu's arm. As if it were a cue, Kanu exploded into motion, bringing her left leg around and slamming a ki-boosted kick into Kakoton's face before he recovered from his shock. Kakoton's nose exploded in a mass of gore from the impact and he went flying into the concrete wall of a nearby building, smashing a large crater in it. His body bounced out of the crater and landed on the ground on his face.
"Ouch," Ouso winced. "I guess he must have pissed her off."
"Told ya Kakoton was screwed," Kakuka mentioned.
Everyone waited to see if Kakoton would get up, but it appeared the boy was out cold.
"It's over," Kanu announced coolly, looking at the ref.
The ref nodded.
"Seito wins that first match by knock out!" he called out.
"So that's Seito's Kanu Unchou," one of the awed spectators commented. "She's awesome."
"No shit," another guy nodded. "Just think how strong she would be if she wasn't fighting with a broken arm."
As short distance away, Ouso looked over at Kakuka.
"I guess you're up, Kakuka," Ouso said.
"I guess so," Kakuka smirked, stepping forward.
Ryofuu stepped out of her room with Chinkyu following. The aqua-haired fighter paused as she caught sight of Kaku standing imperiously in the middle of a group of six guys and wearing a smug smirk.
"Kaku..." Ryofuu said in an irritated tone.
"How will you explain yourself, Ryofuu?" Kaku asked haughtily.
"What are you talking about?" Ryofuu asked.
"Not only did you fail to execute Saji Genpo, but you've been harboring him this whole time," Kaku explained, causing Ryofuu's eyes to widen in surprise. "Well, Ryofuu, explain yourself."
Ryofuu sat down on the engawa to slip on her shoes.
"You brought an entire entourage with you," Ryofuu smirked as she finished putting on her footwear and stood up. She took a step toward Kaku and almost laughed as the smug look on the bespectacled girl's face turned to fear. "Ya that scared of me?"
Kaku nervously looked at the guys she had brought as backup and then back to Ryofuu.
"You're a vicious dog that needs to be punished," Kaku said loudly, regaining a little of her confidence. "I plan on taking you back to Totaku no matter what."
Kaku waved her men forward, but before they could do anything, Chinkyu attacked Kaku, grabbing her by the wrist and twisting her arm behind her back before encircling Kaku's neck with her other arm.
"Are you...trying to resist?" Kaku demanded through the pain of Chinkyu's hold.
"Don't move!" Chinkyu ordered as one of Kaku's men took a step forward. "Take one more step and I swear I'll break her neck." The boy froze, uncertain what to do.
"Stop it, Chinkyu...you bitch," Kaku demanded, only to gasp as Chinkyu applied more pressure to her hold and increased the pain Kaku was feeling.
"Miss Ryofuu, please leave!" Chinkyu called out.
"Let her go," Ryofuu said calmly.
Chinkyu looked back at her in surprise while Kaku smirked. Ryofuu just turned to walk away as Chinkyu released Kaku and shove her hard into a couple of her men. She quickly turned to follow Ryofuu.
"I'm going to take you back no matter what," Kaku shouted with determination.
Ryofuu paused and looked back over her shoulder.
"Do as you please," she replied with a dangerous smirk. "That is, only if you can."
"Oh, I can...and I will," Kaku answered forcefully as her men surrounded Ryofuu and Chinkyu.
"Kan-chan!" Ranma ran up, forgetting that he was supposed to be annoyed with her. "Are you okay? Your arm..."
"I'm fine, Ma-chan," Kanu smiled. "The cast took the impact. My arm is fine. It just needs a new cast that's all."
"I still don't understand why you're acting so stupid!" Ranma said hotly, remembering he was supposed to be mad at her. "I could have—"
Ranma's rant was cut off as Kanu grabbed him by the back of his head and applied a searing kiss to his mouth. The gathered crowd shouted cat calls as Kanu pressed her body sensuously against Ranma's. Ranma's arms came up around her and pulled her tighter against him.
"Excuse me," the boy with spiky, blond-frosted hair spoke up from a short distance away. "I hate to interrupt, but we do have a match to fight."
Kanu broke the kiss and looked at Kakuka from where she was encircled in Ranma's arms.
"Ranma will be your opponent," Kanu informed him. "I did promise him I'd only fight the first match."
"Fine by me," Kakuka shrugged disinterestedly.
