The Familiars of Zero: The Princess and the Emerald [Episode 209113]

by Ryu Gabriev

Elsewhere in the capital city of Tristain, Princess Henrietta de Tristain, de facto ruler of the land was entertaining a pair of researchers currently undergoing a top-secret project. A group of Special Griffon Corps fliers were out on patrol and had discovered a glowing emerald the size of one's fist a few months ago in the outskirts of the kingdom. Returning with their prize to the castle, several Square-class Mages began studying the gem to discover almost instantly the immense power it hid within. Today the two head mages in charge of the project were reporting their progress. One was tall and had red framed glasses along with gravity-defying blond hair. The other was shorter, more rounded with light brown hair and had a kind look to his face.

"And so your highness, we believe that this gem's inherent magic could be of great use to the kingdom...unfortunately all we have managed to discover is that the power exists. As of yet we are unable to figure out how to tap into the energies within safely. Not even the square-class mages were able to hold on to the initial surge of power." The tall mage spoke from his written report, clearly disappointed.

Henrietta could indeed believe his words since the robes of the two researchers trying to explain their findings were a tad burnt and damaged here and there.

"If you haven't found anyone capable of harnessing the stone's energy, what use is it to us?" Asked the princess, trying to take her mind off of the amusing state of her guests.

"We'll...that is somewhat of the point of our report today your Highness. I think we need a second opinion." The shorter researcher frowned as he spoke, taking the setback as a personal failure. "I think maybe my old friend Professor Colbert at the Magic Academy could help. He's always looking for weird things."

Henrietta's eyes widened slightly as an idea came to her. "Very well Professor Stanz, I will see that the gem is transported to the Magic Academy personally. I'm rather curious as to what power it holds also. Are there any documents I should have brought with the stone, Professor Spengler?"

She just smiled as the researchers and guards in the room STARED at her in shock.
