She also found as she looked over the articles in the magazines that she was wrong.
In the first place, there weren't just one sort of magical girls, which surprised her. What she'd expected was that the new girls would follow in the mould of the Senshi, but that wasn't quite true. Oh, sure, they were pretty girls in stylized outfits, but they didn't use mana attacks based on elements all the time. To tell the truth, they did all sorts of things that made them apparently rather varied in their abilities.
The group that she was most familiar with were the Elementalists, who had powers based in one of the 'elements' of old, like the Senshi attacks. A lot of damage could come from them, but they had the weaknesses of that energy, like fires being put out by water. Artifact Users had a similarity to the Senshi in that they used mystical items, like the Space Sword, or the Holy Chalice, but they used their artifact's power as their own, which made it easier for them to keep from exhausting their own strength. This was certainly an advantage... but it also meant that if their artifact was knocked out of play, their abilities were severely curtailed. Related to them were the Warriors, who used mystically empowered weapons a lot of the time, but weren't reliant solely on them all the time.
Once she understood that there were such categories, she began to recognize that it was a fairly organized system. There were even subcategories, with 'ice' and 'earth' in the Elementalist grouping, for a simple example. Logically, it was understandable, since the time storm would have whipped different variations of magical girls from other time lines, and people would have set up the classification as they recognized what was what. Yet, she just couldn't believe that things were going that far out of whack.
It just left her sighing at the shelving, while:
