Ranma walks over to the downed Angel. The entire control room gets deathly quiet as everyone leans forward in anticipation of the Angel’s demise.
The Eva strikes a muscle pose over the angel with its good arm. Everyone in the control room face faults.
Yes, the third child was posing for pictures for Kensuke. Unit 01 is saluting the camera when it sees the angel beginning to stir. A foot on top of the angel’s body brings it back down and all is quiet again. The next big trophy picture pose is with the Eva proudly holding the ‘head’ toward the camera in the best tradition of big trophy hunting pictures.
Unit 01 takes out its prog knife out and everyone in the control room looks up in hope, but they all groan and hang their heads as it poses with the knife to its chest like some ceremonial blade.
Gendo slowly lowers his face toward his steepled hands. He finally lets his hands cover his face in despair as he hears Rei cheering Ranma on. Ritsuko tries to form a sentence, but nothing comes out of her mouth. Misato starts to yell while pounding on the control table with the microphone for emphasis.
“Ranma stop fooling around and stab the core of the angel! Those civilians are still in danger! You have to protect them! You can’t let them get hurt!” Ranma is startled by the loud thumping noise coming over the speakers, jumps in his seat, and accidentally hits several controls that turn on the external speakers.
"Don't worry,” Ranma announces nonchalantly to the world as he gets back into the chair, “itsh only episode 3. Toji doeshn't get hurt by the Aingels until he triesh to pilot Evvah free in epishode 18.”
Toji blinks several times in confusion at the odd announcement. He is brought out of his stunned state by a nearby low growl. He is shocked to find that Kensuke is the source of the noise. The smaller boy drops his camera and actually holds him up by his shirt. Shaking him back and forth the military nut yells with strength born of a nerd rage that would belie his small frame as he screams,
“How could you be training in an Evangelion behind my back? I thought we were buddies!” Kensuke drops the jock on his butt when a thought strikes him. “I could be your second. You know,” His voice becomes completely saccharine as he takes a small step with each word, “In case, you are ill or something. What do you say?” Toji crawls backward for every step forward the bookworm takes. “You can trust me. I wouldn’t even try to sabotage you so you wouldn’t be able to pilot or anything. What do you say?” Unable to take any more the jock turns and runs around the hill with Kensuke close behind him yelling “Come on! You have to let me be a pilot! How about a co-pilot?”
Ranma shakes his head as he watches the two. He looks down at the angel.
