Switching Places/Eva!: Drunken Spoiler [Episode 216146]

“Episode 18?” Maya mouthed.

“Does he think he’s in an anime or something?” Makoto asked.

Gendo frowned beneath his hands. His son was even crazier than he thought. He might end up having to rework portions of his scenario in order to compensate for this.

“RANMA!” Misato bellowed, “Will you stop playing around and finish the Angel off? Look, it’s getting loose!”

“Oh, Alraight.” Ranma slurred.

While Ranma had been rambling, the Angel had wriggled free of EVA-01’s grasp and was readying itself for round 2. As it rushed the Evangelion, the robot lurched to the side, grasping the Angel’s tail as it passed. Ranma then cracked the Angel as if it was a giant whip.

“Not shot tough, are ya?” Ranma said, letting the dazed Angel go. Then he slipped. “Whoops!”

EVA-01 crashed to the ground. Taking the fall with the trained reflexes of a martial artist, Ranma rolled as he fell. The roll caused the enormous weight of the Evangelion to smash into the core of the Angel, crushing it. The Angel died as its killer rolled to a stop.

“Good work, Ranma. Return to base.” Misato ordered. Then she paused. “Ranma? Did you hear me?”

She was answered by a drunken snore.

Misato sighed. Well, they had equipment for retrieving the Evangelions if the pilots were incapacitated, and it would probably be easier to use those than to bother waking him up again. Turning to her staff, she gave orders for EVA-01’s retrieval.

Hikari winced in pain as her head throbbed. She had never had alcohol before, and if the nausea and pain that she was feeling was a typical side effect of drinking, then she had no intention of touching the stuff ever again.

She had been told that two children her age had been outside during the Angel battle. Hikari hoped that they hadn’t been anyone in her class. If they were, then she would have to give them a piece of her mind… as soon as her head stopped pounding. Touji’s sister had done that during the last battle, and she had been so seriously injured that she was still in the hospital. Hikari couldn’t believe that anyone would want to suffer the same fate.

As she was escorted to the room where the two idiots were currently in, she heard a woman yelling through the door. She was apparently chewing Ranma out for getting drunk. Good for her. If Ranma hadn’t been drinking that Everclear stuff, he never would have tried to get Hikari to drink it, and she wouldn’t be in such pain right now.

“And what was that episode 18 thing about, anyway?” The woman continued.

“Yeah, I want to know about that, too!” Touji said.

Hikari froze at the door. Touji was one of the two students?! What was he thinking? He of all people should have known how dangerous it was to be outside during an Angel attack!

“Letsh see… In episode 17, NERV offersh to pick up yer sister’s medical billsh if ya pilot Evvah for them. On yer first time out, Evvah free gets taken over by an Aingel. It getsh ripped to pieces, while yer still inshide. You lose an arm anna laig.”

Hikari paled. She didn’t know what Ranma was talking about, but if that was what would happen if Touji became a pilot, then she would do whatever she had to in order to ensure that he never got anywhere near one.

“Urk.” Apparently, Touji agreed with Hikari’s assessment of his alleged future.

“Hey, itsh not all bad. While yer in the hoshpital, Hikari finally admits that she likes ya.”

Hikari’s hand, which had been gripping the door frame, slipped, hitting the open button. The door opened up, revealing her presence to her secret crush, who had just had that secret revealed to him by a drunken prophet.
