"Soun, Old Friend, it looks like you family has the better chance of will this Competition of the Will. But I have a son, one who's never defeated in a challenge. You've heard even your daughters say, "Ranma always wins"."
"I seem to remember my children getting the better of that boy," Soun said, politely insulted.
"When Ranma marries one of your daughters, then there is no way the Tendos can lose."
"Why...yes: That's correct! The odds go from 3 in 4 to 100%! Genma, I apologize for thinking that my daughter that becomes a noble lady should marry within her new station."
"Then the arranged marriage is still a done deal!" Genma clasped the hand of Soun and shook it.
"Marriage?" Bubu asked.
"As soon as Ranma reaches his 18th birthday," Genma grinned.
"Under the unequal Japanese marriage laws," Nabiki informed the confused American, "the girl can be married off at age 16, but the guy has to wait until he's 18. Akane and Ranma are both 17, now."
"Oh, I didn't know that," the lawyer said. "But that's not what I was referring to. You see, Hoapilis, one of the conditions of the will is that if anyone gets married before they are legal (and that's 20, in Japan, I understand), then they can't inherit any of the Kuno estate."
"Hey! Now There's a good reason to try to get it!" Ranma teased. "No one'd be tryin' to marry me off!"
"Ranma, you jerk!" Akane said.
"No big loss for me," Nabiki said. "I'd only planned to marry for money, and if I'm getting money anyway, why bother?"
"Oh, wait! There's a subsection under marriage," the surfer lawyer said, studying from the sheaves of paper. "If any of the claimants marry a Kuno before they're legal, then they will automatically receive the inheritance. (Ha, ha) They'd get the estate whether they're 20 or not! Mr. Kuno was thinking about his own kids, after all!"
"The contest would be over?" Nabiki perked up. "Suddenly, I'm interested in getting married."
"You go ahead and marry Kuno," Ranma smiled. "It'd serve both you guys right."
"Who says I'm limited to Tatewaki? In fact, I have three marriage candidates."
