"Why are people looking at me?" Kasumi asked. "Did I miss something?"
"You're not going to miss anything, it anything, it seems," Nabiki said, but with a "don't you believe it" tone.
"Congratulations, my first-born!" Soun cried, becoming very solicitous.
"Yes, con, congratulations, Kasumi." Akane had begun to make a U-turn when she found out that greedy Nabiki wanted some of the money; but now that scheming Nabiki's only chance at the fabulous wealth was the elimination of all other legally minor members from the competition, Akane felt she had to make her bid in if just for her older sister's sake. ...And as soon as she told herself she would try for the prize, she had begun to want it, perhaps, for her own sake.
"Yeah! Congratulations!" Ranma played checkerboard, leaping over heads to grab the hand of the friendliest Tendo. "It looks like you got the easiest shot!" he grinned.
[Ranma!] Genma physically reprimanded.
"Ow! What're you doin' hittin' me with a sign when you're not a panda!?"
"Where's your pride as an upholder of the Saotome School of the Anything-Goes School!?"
"Oh, I get it," Ranma said, rubbing the bump on his head. "You just want a part of the loot! Well, even if I was gonna try for it, who says you'd be allowed anywhere near it?"
"Yes, Dad!" Akane turned the response on her own parental figure. She wouldn't really try to cut him out, but right now, as had occurred so many times in her life, she was disappointed enough in him to want take a moral jab at him.
"The Two Fathers have to live in the Castle with us," Nabiki said, already working on her schemes. "As long as we're legally minors."
"What!??" Akane and Ranma said as one.
"Oh-ho! I think the third party in this party is correct!" Bubu said. "Your guardians will have to be there to take care of anything legal for you dudes."
"But YOU'RE the who'll be signing the contracts!" Akane's was becoming frustrated.
"You mean the executor? (Ha, ha) He can only take of the legal stuff that have to do with the Kuno estate. Everything else is up to your legal guardians."
"Did you hear that, Soun?" Genma's lenses glistened. "It means we have a say in the lives of our precious children."
"We always have had, Genma," Soun said just as pleased.
