He was aware of things going on around him, even with his attention focussed almost tunnel-like on the tusked guy who had killed Ukyo. He was aware of Kasumi-panther being thrown aside, of another wash of purple light, and now Kasumi was a bear as she returned to the fight.
He was aware of Shampoo leaping off into another fight with someone wearing incredibly gaudy armor.
He was aware of the way someone else tried to get in his way.
This person had green skin, a piglike snout, lots of armor, and a two-handed war axe that managed to clip him in his left forearm. That his arm went numb from fingers to shoulder immediately indicated that this was BAD.
Then a gymnastics ribbon snaked out to wrap around one of the brute's arms and Ranma was able to exploit that moment of hesitation.
Unfortunately the tusked-guy had used his own reprieve in order to summon something made entirely of flame.
Nabiki was familiar with the game that Kasumi had played. She hadn't played herself, but she had watched Kasumi do something called "grinding" once. Apparently you need to "grind" in order to be able to do the parts of the game that Kasumi actually liked - which was mainly something called "crafting."
There were several things which departed quite a lot from the game she'd seen.
For one thing, buildings were static in the game. In the game version, they couldn't have holes blown in them nor be set on fire. Unlike these, which had and were.
People and monsters 'respawned' or something. Whereas Ukyo was most definitely dead.
Hiding behind a shrub as her gentle elder sister unleashed her beast within upon some sort of monster-men, clutching the countdown timer they needed to leave, Nabiki watched as Ukyo's burnt and twisted body simply faded out. Which was unexpected, but that might mean she was 'respawning' somewhere.
Nabiki ducked as a blast of something went by her and crushed part of the inn. That brought her attention back to the fight, and she saw Kodachi becoming a pillar of flame. Had she meant to shield Akane somehow? It didn't seem likely but perhaps somewhere in that twisted mind she had come to the conclusion that they were on the same side for a brief moment.
The silhouette enshrouded in flame that was Kodachi staggered, held up a hand in Ranma's direction, and dropped. The flames guttered and went abruptly out. Akane looked paralyzed, staring down at the gymnast. Which was NOT a good thing in this sort of melee.
The guy in the elaborate armor looked like a sunlit version of the elf Kasumi had become. The longsword he swung up looked to have a green-white glow around it.
Then Ranma was there, striking again and again at the elf till blonde-and-handsome became bloody-and-messed-up.
Nabiki never felt the presence behind her until strong arms swept her up.
