And he noticed the sign of a musical note on the headband of one of the attacking ninjas as the sunlight flashed on the exposed metal.
"Just great," the pigtailed boy growled. "Sound ninja."
"Simply makes it easier to know that we won't have to be holding back, boy," Genma reminded his son.
"Well, yeah, 'course I'm going to pound them silly. They're the bad guys."
Rock Lee's eyes went wide. "You mean that they are serving the one who has been trying to harm the village?"
"Duh! Pay attention to what's going on, idiot," Tenten snapped as she got her naginata into a ready position.
"Then we have no choice but to fight them."
"You're absolutely right," Might Guy declared, and let the sun glint off the teeth his smile was showing. "They're going to have to be punished for all their misdeeds."
"You're so right, Guy-sensei! So, watch out criminals!"
A sigh passed Tenten's lips as she considered what her fellow ninja were doing. "This is a fight. Can you do the posing later?"
Laughter came up from around them as the four attacking fighters got into a loose perimeter around the group. Each had taken a side, making it clear that they intended to box in their quarries, but they didn't seem to be in any rush to take them out. It was almost like it was a game to them, and they didn't seem ready to let it end.
"You really don't have any idea of what you're heading in to, do you?" sneered a Sound ninja in a tree. "Fighting each other when we're here to take you out."
"Maybe they don't know what's they're facing," commented another Sound fighter, a mocking tone thick in the voice.
"Then they're idiots, as well as fools."
"Watch who you are calling fools," Lee called back out at them. "You will surely perish by our hands!"
"Ooh, brave talk from such a weak little boy."
"You are the weak ones, kidnapping innocent people! If you know what's best, you'll return them right away."
The Sound Ninja standing on the ground smiled cruelly. "Oh, they'll probably be returning sooner than you think."
"They will?"
"Of course. Once they've been properly adjusted, and they've had their wills taken away, they'll be completely obedient servants to the Land of Sound."
"And they'll be just panting to do what we want, no matter how much they might have complained before. Including attacking that pathetic little village of yours."
"Damn, they're going to turn them into mindless slaves," Tenten growled, remembering how close she'd come to that sort of condition herself.
