The other three leapt in different directions.
"We are Team DosuUUUUU?!" said one as suddenly his foot was pinned by a throwing dagger to his treelimb perch.
Tenten held two handfuls of the weapons, judging the location of the enemy. Her naginata was dropped atop one of her feet, where she thought a single kick would bring it up to her hands again.
"I've got it," said the woman of the group, holding a pair of bells up and shaking them. "Let's see what you're afraid of."
"Genjutsu," realized Ranma aloud as a wave of distortion passed from the girl.
Genma Saotome MIGHT have been an overweight glutton who was also a formidable martial artist when he couldn't avoid it. On the other hand, he was a lot harder than he might have been.
As a distortion passed over the campsite, changing it to a nightmare scene, Genma spat a bit of gristle from breakfast off in the direction of their campfire.
"Idiots," mumbled Genma as his kusarigama shifted ever so slightly.
Foebane was the name of the Saotome weapon that had chosen him. Foebane's most obvious power was that it could detect ambushes and areas tainted by hostile intent. If there was an enemy, he could tell where they were and to some extent how powerful.
A loop of chain extended up, snapping across his field of vision. Genma didn't even smirk as three kunai were trapped within the links.
Foebane's power to detect enemies was not it's sole power though.
Nor was the wielder of that weapon exactly powerless. He'd seen how things worked around here long ago, and he'd learned and modified techniques to that end.
Genma simply faded away as far as anyone watching was concerned. Then he took four steps to the side where he'd memorized when he'd seen the genjutsu technique start.
The chain lengthened in response to his silent command, expanding outward to coil in a spiral around him.
Then it was just a matter of waiting.
Ranma frowned and leapt to the side. He knew the power level required of a Hokage. He didn't have that. Yet.
He went through techniques as the genjutsu went off. There really WAS only one to use here.
Ranma went through the handsigns quickly, then focussed chakra into his eyes. "Blessed Vision."
His father was circling himself within Foebane's coils. Good enough. He'd sparred with his father and knew that the defense was pretty darn effective.
Tenten had apparently thrown her daggers at the last observed location of the four attackers. One of whom hadn't changed position fast enough and had a dagger buried in her shoulder. She was still maintaining the genjutsu though - so not much help there. Tenten now had the naginata in her hands, but what powers she could bring to bear on this situation wasn't clear.
Blessed Vision wasn't like the two major eye techniques of Konoha. It didn't give him a wider range of vision or allow him to see moves and copy them instantly.
He could see the waves and patterns of chakra involved in the genjutsu, carried and reinforced by the chiming of that bell the gal with the hurt shoulder still had.
He could also see that those involved had elaborate mechanisms built into their bodies.
Ranma snorted as he noticed that Might Guy was about to crush one of the Sound Ninja, while Rock Lee was attacking a tree.
He put a foot underneath a rock, weighed it briefly, then kicked it.
KA-BLING!
The bells maintaining the jutsu fell from a broken hand. The genjutsu faded.
"Oh, yeah, this is gonna be fun," said Ranma.
