Ataru stood before the Shinto temple building. He looked through the gate toward the entryway. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath, preparing himself to step forward and begin his quest to know the truth. Opening his eyes he jumped backward with a scream prompted by the horrid face before his eyes.
"Hmm, the boy with the unlucky face returns," Cherry?s sister intoned once again from the stool she stood on.
Ataru forced himself to calm down, and plastered a big smile on his face. "Excuse me, but is Sakura-chan home? There's some school business I need to consult with her about."
Sakura's mother looked at him for a moment. With a shrug she responded, "Check back tomorrow, she is handling the blessing ceremonies at several new buildings downtown."
"Thank you grandma!" Ataru declared with a bow as he pivoted and ran down the street as fast as he could.
"New buildings, new buildings," Ataru muttered to himself as he jogged toward downtown Tomobiki. As he approached the intersection he halted, jogging in place. "Hmm, there's a lot, maybe it's one of those houses Mendo's tanks smashed." He pivoted and jogged down one of the streets.
Ataru talked to himself as he jogged. "Ok, Sakura-chan was at the ramen shop Rei stepped on last week, but they don't know where she went next." He paused at the street corner, shaking his head. "There's a lot of construction sites."
