Kasumi was reminded of a time long ago when she'd visited an amusement park. There had been a ride which had involved cranking the then-eight year old way up into the air and then releasing the chair to drop into a spinning dive.
That was kind of how the [Basic Computer] skill package felt as it downloaded into her.
She found it all very interesting, something she'd heard of such devices but never really used one before. Now she understood. How to set up computers, do basic repairs and troubleshooting, operate most of the common programs and tweak their performance.
She understood that most of the computers and similar equipment had been developed back in the age before Sukebe. That resources necessary to build new computers were rare or nonexistent because the disruption of the trade routes and material sources had been so total.
To build a microprocessor of the types normally found in the decades before the War, it required high grade silicon. Nowadays there were groups like the Akaihitsu Corporation which made vaccuum tube computers that were relatively huge and balky, but they WERE new and they could supply replacement parts easily.
Technique Enabled: Interface
Kasumi nodded to herself. As she herself was now essentially an organic computer, interfacing with a computer system would allow her complete control over it. Which was potentially quite useful because of the sheer number of systems that were out there even if the numbers had been in steady decline since that War. She wasn't an expert, but she could get the job done. The pokedexes themselves were a mix of magical forces and scavenged computer technology - she could enhance such devices when she'd gained enough practical experience.
She accessed Akane. She agreed with the Network that Akane would NOT handle the new situation or society well. Though shutting down her personality seemed a bit extreme.
Well, Akane's personality WAS shut down. That just meant that she was very robotic for the near future. She would be able to remember everything that happened, it wasn't like her mind or memory was shut down, it was just that she would be very logical and focussed. She had the same likes and dislikes, though she might not display them.
On the other hand, if she remembered everything and her personality were reactivated without anything else happening - Akane would likely get very emotional very quickly. And violently if the past were any indication.
Kasumi considered that, sent her misgivings on to the Net with a suggestion, and felt the approval come back a moment later.
