Kasumi searched through the database, finding odd things.

As a Mechanique, her strength and speed and durability were all much greater. However, she was not primarily a battle-unit. No, she was a Support unit.

As a Support unit, she had less physical power. She also had a Scan technique for greater information on specific targets, or Passive Scan - which could be left active and which would relay information about her immediate environment.

It looked as though Mechanique was a very advanced sort of pokegirl.

Correct. Most pokegirl types were originally unplanned but viable. Mechanique was developed to correct unforeseen problems with original units.

"I don't understand," confessed Kasumi. "Why is this world the way it is?"

The tendency of things to go wrong at the worst time, with the messiest results possible, responded the Mechanique Network. Admittedly it has been helped along in that regard by the three major forces jockeying amongst themselves to maintain the current status quo. Those in power tend to take steps to remain in power. A human failing that was unfortunately copied into some pokegirl psychology.

"Ah, I suppose I can check into it later," said Kasumi, feeling a bit overwhelmed at this point. What else could she use this connection for?

"Oh, that might be handy," agreed Kasumi as she went to a folder marked [Beginning Level Skills] and opened it. She regarded the cubes that popped up into the ether around her after she did that. "This might be good."
