Now the wizarding and muggle worlds very rarely mixed. This was partly because the wizards didn't want the muggles to become jealous or scared that there were people in the world who could change things with magic. The second reason was slightly more complex in that when the muggle world turned its back on magic and intead turned to technology it made it so that even the slightest touch of magic mixing with technology could cause great chaos and suffering. One early example being Jusenkyo

(Backstory: Atlantis was a highly advanced civilisation. They were responsible for the launching of the first sattelite, the construction of the pyramids and other wonders at their various outposts, and even a colony on mars. Then the long-dormant volcano on their island blew its top and caused the entire island to become unstable and landslide itself into a waterry grave.
Without Atlantis giving signals to it, the satellite missed its next programmed orbit codes s instead crashed to earth in the region known now as China, but back then was the original wizarding school that made Hogwarts laughable in comparison.
As for the other marvels of Atlantis.. well.. everyone knows of the earth-bound marvels, but very few realise the signifigance of their origins.. and the mars-colony lasted only for a century before the great sandstorms finally cracked the geodome, which hadn't been repaired due to the sudden lack of materials being shipped from Atlantis. Now we earthlings only have the carved mountain-face of Htzylg the first emperor of Atlantis to show that we humas ever lived there.)

but other examples are also found here and there. Anyway, to this day, technological items are forbidden around magic and vice versa.

Luckily for Harry Potter and the world, however, was the fact that the alien invasion had taken place while he was staying with his dreadful muggle relatives instead of at Hogwarts. Which is why he was able to hear his name being issued as the second candidate by way of television.
