Setsuna Meiou inclined her head.
"But why ARE you here?" asked Ami, feeling the situation was even more out of control.
"You are not fighting a single enemy any longer," said Setsuna. "I've asked Artemis to gather information and he's come up with enough data for me to fill in a few holes."
"Such as?" asked Rei.
"The first group is the one you're familiar with," said Setsuna. "Beryl. The Dark Kingdom. The Negaverse. The second is a group of scientists who have branched out into other territory. I have reason to believe that they have dissected a few yoma and are currently engaged in battles with the Dark Kingdom. They are not your allies however, and if they capture any of you - it would be most unpleasant."
"Scientists? Like those labs?" asked Ranma.
"Exactly," said Setsuna, giving the boy a few points for connecting the dots that quickly. Well, he was Ami's brother - so perhaps it was to be expected. "Their name is Omnitech, but their real name is Advanced Idea Mechanics or AIM. They came from outside this universe, from a parallel Earth. Why they came here is more guesswork, but from their methodology thus far - it isn't likely to be good. Your hammer is something cloned or duplicated from another such device and brought here. They were also engaged in other research, likewise crossing several disciplines. I only have partial information so far, but what I have uncovered is mainly dealing with the empowerment of individuals and in the creation of weapons."
"Weapons? Like guns?" asked Usagi.
"More like bombs, death rays, and the like," said Setsuna.
"Oh. That's bad," summed up Usagi.
"So which ones were throwing ninja at us yesterday?" asked Ranma. "Or samurai that turned into paper dolls?"
"Or that Nightshade girl," mumbled Usagi.
"As near as I can determine, they are unallied with either side or even each other," said Setsuna. "You, Minako, saw signs that the onmyoji had fought with the ninja - correct?"
"Yeah, that's right," admitted Minako.
"Well, these others are just fighters, right?" asked Ami, who was NOT going to use the term 'martial artists' right now.
"Who managed to knock you out for a good portion of the day," pointed out Makoto helpfully.
"So other than giving briefings, why ARE you here?" asked Rei, who had NOT had her coffee yet and was being slightly grumpy.
"You need an adult to play chaperone, and Ami's mother," said Setsuna with a nod towards the quiet woman making tea in the back, "has duties that can and will call her elsewhere. On that general tack, what's on today's training schedule?"
