Lamp Of Mihoshi/House Of El: Misty POV [Episode 212530]

by Kestral

Kasumi thought about a lot of things as the boat (or ship - she never could keep the distinction straight) made its way towards what looked like a natural dock.

She remembered the odd man showing up just a couple of days ago. She remembered all the fussing her father did, bustling around.

She also remembered why the trip had been okayed. Apparently getting away from the city and the pollution for a time would be good for Mommy's health. That was good because Mommy had been getting really sick lately. She tried to hide it, but Kasumi knew. Mommy's hair falling out and losing all that weight was obvious to Kasumi. So Kasumi was a good little girl and tried to help her Mommy out and not be a demand for attention the way Akane and Nabiki were.

It hurt not getting as much attention as Akane did, or even Nabiki, but then Mommy would smile at her and it was better.

Mommy was very sick. Kasumi also knew the doctors had been all solemn in that way they did on the TV dramas when things were very very wrong.

So Kasumi was a very worried little girl who tended to stay in the background and out of the way and fixed things. It really hurt to see Mommy like that but she wasn't going to cause her Mommy any more burden if she could help it.

Kasumi remembered hearing all the arguments, but eventually they came with the fat man and woman with the sword. The boat was old and rickety, and it smelled of fish in areas. It had been a fishing boat at some point, Kasumi was relatively sure.

Then she saw Akane jostling Nabiki like they did when they wanted Mommy's attention, except it was to see some island this time. She'd tried to grab on and keep them from falling off, but then she found herself going over the rail. Akane couldn't swim so she'd tried to help Akane.

THAT hadn't worked either.

Then the boy had moved like a bolt of lightning and been in the water and Akane flailing around hadn't budged him in the slightest.

Kasumi had found herself back on the deck without really noticing all the details. Mostly because she'd felt herself dissolving into panic herself. Incipient death had had that quality.

Now they were approaching the island, and Kasumi could focus on that. Though she DID look at the little boy a little differently now. He'd seemed quiet. Maybe a bit shy. Spent a lot of time sleeping or training. When he moved though, he MOVED. Forceful and fast and without any sign of indecision or panic. It had been quite impressive now that she tried to figure out what had occurred while Akane had been drowning her.

Maybe she ought to learn some martial arts too? She'd dismissed the possibility earlier but that kind of strength might have some uses too. She didn't seem to be really that good at that sort of thing, and it was kind of violent.

They pulled up to the rocks and the big guy, Genma Saotome, tied the ship into place.

The island itself was a jungle with a lot of rocks towering up out of it.

She hoped that there was a bathroom here because she really really needed to go.
