Benoit, for example. Her Master said that he knew 'people in weird places' but that was becoming an understatement. Benoit would make overly dramatic gestures and go on and on about fashion and mood. He might be gay, but he was so over-the-top in that regard that Melfina found herself wondering if it were all just some act.
"You know this person too, Master?" asked Melfina as the tailor dashed off, weeping about something involving synthetic fibers.
"Yeah. Same kinda deal," said Ranma. "Matathias is OLD. An alchemist from somewhere in the Middle East, I think. He's a little bit nuts though, sometimes he'll talk about how they did something and it'll turn out he's talking about Ancient Rome or something. Benoit is just a couple decades older than me. It's just he's..."
"A tailor who utilizes magic in his creations," said Benoit, walking up with a stack of clothing.
"'Magic'"? asked Melfina.
"Mmmhmmm," mumbled Benoit, his attention mainly on one outfit he was holding up from the stack as he eyed Melfina behind it. "Oh this would be absolutely DARLING on you."
"Yeah," said Ranma. "Magic. When Pop and me showed up in this world-"
"Hold your arms up, sweetie," said Benoit to Melfina, taking out a tape measure.
Melfina blinked and wondered about the 'other world' reference as she complied.
"-we ran into one of these shops right away. Turns out we're both kinda 'weirdness magnets' because we don't quite fit this universe," said Ranma. "Or something like that. The one we ran into first wasn't as nice as Benoit's shop."
"Terrible place, simply terrible," agreed Benoit, as he took one measurement after another.
"Pops got hit with a curse when he tried to 'five finger discount' from that guy," said Ranma. "Still got it too."
"Very bad," said Benoit. "Oh yes. Dear? What kind of skills do you have ratings in?"
"I'm not sure," said Melfina. "I'm familiar with navigation and vehicle operation, everything else is kind of blank."
"Oh dear, sounds like a bad reaction to the adjustment process," tsked Benoit.
"The clothing is cursed?" asked Melfina, understandably confused and slightly alarmed.
"Oh dear me no," said Benoit. "Ranma drops off all sorts of supplies when he's coming through. Last time he was here he dropped off four feathers from one of the legendary bird-people of China and the hair of a chimera. It wouldn't do at ALL to be cursing his slave."
"Yeah, that chimera was tough," said Ranma with a shudder. "The dragon head sneezed flaming snot. Disgusting AND hazardous to yer health."
"Yes, I think this will do," said Benoit, selecting an outfit. "Try this dear."
