"You promised you would end my eternity, didn't you...?"
He remembered her face on that day. Traces of blood dripped down her mouth; tears running down her golden eyes... and the most beautiful smile that the world would never see.
'Honestly, that woman...' After all the death he had caused during his lifetime, he had been ready to be struck down by a symbol of justice and hope and like the selfish creature she is, she took the death blow instead and took that opportunity to fulfill their contract. As much as he wanted to, he couldn't blame her. She had already spent an eternity alone. To bear another eternity would have been horrific.
A small beep on his communications console echoed through his quarters. A quick flick of a switch and the line between the two was open. "What is it?"
"It's almost time."
"I'm on my way."
As he exited his quarters dressed in a black space suit and made his way through the gravity free corridor to the bridge of the vessel, he wondered if working towards that man's goals would be his redemption. If anything, perhaps he could finally start to forgive himself...
The door to bridge slid open to reveal his small four-man bridge crew at their stations. There were two males who manned the helm of the ship while the side stations were occupied by two girls, one with pink hair and the other with brown hair. All four officers were dressed up in space suits. "Status?"
"Exia is en route to engage the target. Dynames is in position," reported the girl with pink hair.
The girl with brown hair spoke next. "Kyrios and Virtue are standing by."
"Very well." He made his way to the centre seat and settled in. As the viewscreen switched to the Earth and the Orbital Elevators that surrounded it, Lelouch vi Britannia raised a Black King chess piece as a small salute to the man who set this new mission into motion. 'Well, Aeolia Schenberg... the stage is yours...'
