A twenty year old Sakura Haruno sat on top of the Hokage mountain and looked down at the ruined village of Konoha. She looked at one of the few intact buildings and tears fell down her face.
"Naruto, you are the one who wanted this, not me. Konohomaru would have been a better choice than me, if he had survived. Anyone would have been a better choice than me, save that traitor."
Sakura got up and left the carved face of the seventh and final Hokage: herself. She went into the building that used to be Naruto’s old apartment and the room that used to be Naruto’s. She started going though the various scrolls and memorizing them using certain mind techniques before lighting each of them on fire and reducing them to ash.
"This should keep the future somewhat secure against missing-nin. It will take time before people rebuild those skills. Hopefully they have time enough to learn the lessons from the war just past," Sakura muttered, before she opened the last of the scrolls.
Sakura stared in shock at the scroll. On it was a technique to send one’s mind back in time. She looked at the author and gave a sad smile for on it was the name of the Fourth Hokage and the notes on how he used it to go back to stop the nine-tailed fox and keep Akatsuki from using the fox as a weapon against the other shinobi nations. On the scroll was a final note.
'To the future Kage who reads this scroll, know that this technique can not be used unless you are a Kage that fulfils certain requirements and going back in time there is a chance to stave off more death than what you could kill by accident. Akatsuki had used the various tailed beasts as weapons in my first time through and pretty much brought the shinobi nations to their knees. If it is Akatuski again, please go back and correct the mistake that I left behind. Minato Namikaze, Fourth Hokage'
Sakura stared at the line in shock and started breathing heavily. She quickly read through the scroll a few times through and quickly committed the technique to memory and set the scroll aside.
"I'm not going to burn that one. It might be needed by the future," Sakura muttered and then looked out the window towards the Hokage monument.
"Minato, your son always wanted me to go out with him. Tsunade, if I do this, will you thank me or hate me? Shikamaru, I know you didn't want the title and Naruto should have been up there instead of you. Sarutobi, you were a fool, but you didn't do it out of hatred and did your best to help Naruto and protect Konoha."
Sakura quickly prepared the room for the technique. She painted various symbols around the room. Sakura blinked a bit before grabbing some stuff from a pouch and throwing it around her and focusing her chakra. Trees appeared in the room and she quickly shaped the trees to finish the diagram she had read.
"It's nice being able to use Wood Techniques. If I want to keep this, I have to go pretty far back. I was going to head back to right after Team Seven passed, but now that I think about it, I should go back to before I attended the academy," Sakura muttered. "No one will look at me twice if I'm not interested in Sasuke, if I never was."
Sakura's hands quickly flashed through the hand seals and pushed her chakra out. The symbols around her flashed she felt extreme exhaustion come over her. She quickly realized the reason for the Kage level restriction, due to the chakra drain and chakra molding skill needed to use the technique. She shook her head and kept the symbols going. After thirty-six hours, Sakura was finished with the hand seals and she felt her mind detach from her body and head into the past.
Sakura woke up and looked around. She thought that those images and feelings were a dream at first, but she tended to doubt it. She looked in the mirror and saw that she was around six years old. She heard her parents talking about an event that happened last night. Someone had slaughtered the entire Uchiha clan, leaving only Sasuke alive.
"So, it begins. If I stay average, I should be put on the team with Naruto and Sasuke," Sakura muttered to herself.
