2362 ATB.
As a result of the depletion of fossil fuels, which had served as the primary source of energy to maintain the high quality of life throughout the world once sakuradite reserves were completely depleted by 2082 ATB, humanity had to search for a new source of power. The power was found in the form of a solar energy generation system, a half-century long project started in 2302 ATB that centered around three orbital elevators, 50,000 kilometres in length. For the construction of these colossal structures which produced near infinite energy, the world split itself into three groupings of nations:
The World Economic Union, consisting of the Americas and Japan, with political power divided between the House of Lords and the 118th Emperor of Britannia.
The Human Reform League, centered around India, Russia and China, with a Chairman serving as the head of government and the Tianzi holding reserve powers.
And finally, the Advanced European Union, governed by a parliamentary body.
Funny how history seemed to repeat itself as the three powers of today reminded Lelouch of the three superpowers of old: The Holy Britannian Empire, the Euro Universe and the Chinese Federation.
And as for the United Federation of Nations, they eventually became the United Nations back in 2118 ATB. Apparently, there were still some amicable relations between the members of the United Nations and the three current superpowers as elements from Union, HRL and AEU militaries are present in the United Nation's army: The Order of the Black Knights. However the symbol that had given birth to the Black Knights was no longer there. According to history, the masked defender of justice Zero vanished around 2050 ATB, as the world was flourishing with a new found prosperity.
Lelouch understood that he couldn't expect Suzaku to keep up the act forever. And the fact is that Suzaku would not be willing to ask someone else to sacrifice their happiness to maintain a symbol's existence and act as a deterrent against those who would prey upon the weak. But how long did it take for the united world to unravel after Zero had vanished?
It was hard to say but as soon as the warning signs were seen from conflicts rising between nations to obtain more fossil fuels to power their respective economies, the Britannian royal family descended from Nunally secretly poured resources into locating his chamber that Suzaku and Jeremiah had hidden from the world. He remembered that day on 2300 ATB when Lilia Vi Britannia opened his capsule and asked him to grant her wish for a gentler 'tomorrow', exactly like the world he had left behind for his sister back in 2018 ATB. He had been hesitant to step back into the world, especially since he now possessed C.C.'s Code and could bestow Geass upon individuals.
But witnessing the First Solar Conflict erupt just prior to the start of the Orbital Elevator construction project changed everything......
A chime coming from the entrance of his quarters dispelled his thoughts. "Enter." The door opened to reveal one of his bridge officers at the entrance, the pink haired girl who had changed into a purple and yellow jumpsuit. "Is there something I can do for you, Feldt?"
Feldt Grace quietly floated in the room, letting the door shut automatically behind her. "I was hoping you had changed your mind."
He shook his head sadly. "You know that the Meisters are sworn to secrecy." Honestly, he should have been a little more careful with deleting the communication logs between himself and Chall. And apparently, Feldt had probably managed to recover part of their catch up conversation a few days prior to the First Mission.
"I see." Although her response was flat, there was still a painful undertone in those words. Especially when she knew that her older brother figure was concealing information from her about her parents. "I'm sorry for bothering you. Good night, onii-sama."
"But..." That one word stopped her from leaving his quarters quickly. "... technically, I'm not a Gundam Meister. So I'm going to make a proposal: If you can help me out with a little side project that I'm working on with Chris, then I'll tell you a few stories back when I was in Krung Thep with them."
Now she was curious about what he meant. "What project?"
"Something that may just come in handy in the worst case scenario."
"...... I'm in."
"I'll fill you in on the details a bit later. Get some rest first so we can prepare for the second mission." She nodded once before leaving the room. As soon as the door closed, Lelouch leaned back on his bed with a small smile on his face.
'Initial conditions cleared...'
