"Friend or foe?" asked someone.
"Huh?" asked Akane, looking around. Nobody. She rubbed sleep out of her eyes and looked again. Still no one.
"Ah, wait, tis thee," said the voice again. "Akane Tendo, resident of this dojo, and heir to your martial arts school. Good morning."
Akane looked down. There was a hamster there. A hamster in samurai armor, in the process of sheathing a hamster-sized katana.
Akane blinked but the hamster remained.
"You may pass, Lady Akane," said the hamster, making a credible bow despite his girth. "I shall remain and watch for enemies."
"Uhm, right," said Akane. "You're a hamster. Right?"
"Tori Moridea," said the hamster with another bow.
"You're a samurai hamster," said Akane, wanting to be perfectly clear on that part.
"Indeed," said Moridea. "Might this humble one note that you are quicker on the uptake in the morning than thy sister Nabiki?"
"You might," agreed Akane, despite her mind still going mostly .
Akane considered that briefly, then entered the bathroom anyway.
After the events of the previous night, well, it wasn't so... wait. Previous night.
Kasumi had adapted smoothly to the change in the routine of the household.
That there was something vaguely resembling a dalek (or maybe R2-D2 with a gun on his turret), but which was actually a tank built by the more modern-military individuals among the hamsters, in the backyard was just one more little oddity and not even a particularly stressful one.
After all, a little cabbage and a fresh tomato and the guests were happily munching while they "patrolled the perimeter for threats."
She'd only had to admonish them once, and now the tank was keeping off the grass. So all was well and good in Kasumi's opinion.
Well, except that Ranma was gone. According to the note he was now training -
