"AH HAH! I've found you at last, Ranma Saotome!!"
The pigtailed summoner looked up at that familiar voice. Then he groaned and belatedly wished that he hadn't.
"Oh dear," Ifurita sighed at his side.
Ever since Mutou Enterprises had institutionalized rules of the Great Game in 1946, the death and severe injury rate for players had fallen to a fraction of what it had been in the bad old days when the normal method of winning was to kill an opponent summoner. While this was generally agreed upon by everyone as a good thing, it unfortunately also meant that people who normally wouldn't last long in this kind of event could remain annoying for a long, long time.
Such as was the case here. While they called themselves his rival, privately Ranma considered them nothing more then an idiot. Or perhaps this was an insult to perfectly good idiots.
But they had their official Game Card out. And the Rules of the Game permitted him only two options if they offered Challenge since he didn't have a legitimate cause for refusal.
Battle or Forfeit.
And if the day ever came where he forfeited a match against someone like *that*, he'd given Ifurita strict instructions to kick his ass until he came to his senses.
"What do you want?"
"I challenge you to a Summoner Duel! Do you accept or surrender?"
Well there it was, no getting out of it now.
"Fine. Challenge Accepted."
From his pants pocket Ranma produced his own enchanted Game Card, which pulsed and glowed with a silvery light as the Ritual Magic fed through it. As the challenged party, it was his right to set the dueling field.
"Beneath this watching Sky, Judged by the Sun and Moon, We who are bound in this Pactio Fight as One!"
As he finished the ritual words the summoner hurled his card up into the air where it burst into a shower of twinkling sparks that formed half of a complex Magical Circle.
"Nehheheheh! I have you now, Saotome," said-
