Coupled Union - Shape Of Seas: Voices Of Certainty [Episode 215811]

by Kender

If one was to ask him, Genma would have had to admit that he wasn't exactly a fan of the travelling that was needed to go on a training quest. Marching for miles, sleeping on the hard ground, and eating camp food for days on end didn't have much of an appeal, given that it was damned uncomfortable. But it had to be done for the Art, and that meant that one had to suffer. Oh, it wasn't like sitting around feeling miserable over whether to make a bird in a painting vermillion or scarlet. Rather, one had to build endurance both physically and mentally, and this was one of the easier ways to do it. Besides, one couldn't expect the challenges to build one's strength to always come along on their own.

Fortunately though, it was time to lay down his own wearisome load. The hour upon which he and Tendo had agreed was coming up, and so far his son was trudging along right behind him. Of course, he hadn't mentioned the fact that they were heading to a marriage meeting as of yet, but that shouldn't matter. At the end of the day, the boy would have a fiancee, there would be a wedding in short order, and he could finally rest comfortably in his well deserved retirement.

Life was good, and he was happy that it was going to go his way. Near as he could tell there was nothing that he'd forgotten, and it was more than likely that they'd left all their problems behind. Well, there was this sense that frost was running down his spine, but he just put it down to a slight cold. A bit of tea and soup would make that go right away.

Oh, there had been troublemakers along the way, with the boy among them, but it wasn't like he was expected to have no hassles. However, much of those had happened ages ago, and he rather doubted that those could bother him after all this time. That Chinese girl had been a handful, but it wasn't like she could follow them all the way to Japan. And luckily they'd left that one girl behind before she could really make much trouble.

Still, just thinking about that blonde made his shoulders hunch, as she disturbed him greatly. It wasn't that she was awful to look at, as she had long lustrous hair and a shapely form, nor did she seem to be a terrible person when one first met her, as she had a sunny and helpful attitude. Instead, it had to do with what came out when one really got to know her... and it was rather creepy.

For one thing, she seemed to be utterly dedicated to his son, which wasn't so bad... if the boy wasn't meant to be with another. Just why it was, he didn't know, but this 'San' was really trying to be a partner and companion for his son. That was entirely too close to being a 'wife' for Genma's liking, and he didn't want her involved with the boy. The fact that she was rather honorable was good in that regard... but her idea of honor wasn't exactly matching up to his, which tended to make conflicts to his detriment. And then there was the way that she had seemed to be fascinated by the Saotome family honor blade that had him worrying about her a lot.

No, it was better to have her far away and long behind them, as he wasn't all that keen on having the boy involved with someone like that.

Sneezing again, San put down what she'd been adjusting and wondered if she was coming down with a cold. She tried to keep her room as clean as possible, so it was unlikely that straightening up was bringing up much dust. However, she didn't feel sick, and had been taking good care of herself.

Not that she'd have planned to move into her in-law's home so soon in her life, but once she'd married, living with her parents hadn't seemed to be so right. A wife's place was at her husband's side, or at the very least, at home, figuratively speaking. Going out into the world for school or work was one thing, but considering that ignoring the chance to live with the man that she loved was silly, she wasn't about to miss it. Since she couldn't accompany him on his training journey, she could at least wait for him to return home, and to her arms.

Once Ranma did come back, she knew that things would be so wonderful for them. Being able to be with him always brought joy into her heart, and she had no doubt that he wanted to be with her. After all, not many boys would have faced down her father so willingly, especially when he got grumpy. But she wasn't about to force him to abandon his calling, and so she waited patiently, knowing that he would never abandon her.

"San-chan?" called out her mother in law. "If you're done in there, we need to get started on dinner!"

"Yes, Mother," San answered back, finding it still a bit odd to call another woman that. However, Nodoka Saotome was someone that she had easily bonded with, and rather looked up to. As such, she was fortunate to have two 'mothers' in her life that she truly loved, and knew cared deeply for her right back.

Smiling at her good luck, she replaced her sword back on its wall mount and hurried off to go help with the cooking, while:
