They exited into an inferno, though it was all but gone, so the mech they rode did not receive damage. Their eyes beheld strange, cube-type machines, and one recognized where she was. Their eyes spotted a bright light, then saw a blue giant crushing and cutting the cubes, as it went on the rampage. It was to no avail, as the little machines suddenly swarmed the giant's limbs, immobilizing it.
Barnette had her hands on the control, and was gripping them so tightly, she wondered why it had not yet broken. Ranma, meanwhile, had his hands over hers, though they did not notice it, whilst frowning very heavily. They were far too focused on the swarm as they continued to wrap around the struggling Vandread. Then, a sound came from both the bottom of their throats, and threatened to burst from their mouths.
They growled.
Growled with such ferocity, that their unconsciously entwined hands trembled with rage. Unnoticed, the Shining Gundam answered accordingly. It seemed to square its shoulders.
They pushed the the controls forward, and the Gundam charged, raising its hand. They pulled on a trigger-like button, and a spark started on the Gundam's hand. Then more sparks joined, then the raised hand began glowing, as panels along the unit's armor opened, giving the Gundam a slightly more fierce look. They pushed the controls even more forward, as a war cry rose in their throats. The Gundam's speed increased, and further cocked its hand back in preparation for a strike.
They did all this, to their wonder later on, seemingly out of instinct. No words were exchanged, just a fierce impulse to protect. No unnecessary movement was involved, only to move to fight. Their thoughts were one, and they both wished to defend and destroy.
And, as Vandread Dita's horned head was buried under the mass of Cubes, the Shining Gundam thrust its luminescent hand forward, its glow effortlessly destroying the Cubes into indistinct scrap. It swept its hand aside, and cleared the cubes that got in the way, revealing the blue-plated mech underneath. It began swatting at the Cubes at seemingly impossible speeds, and the Vandread was freed enough so that the Gundam was able to pull the mech away with its non-glowing hand.
All this, and in only a half a minute, under the shocked stares of the Nirvana's crew, the Dread, as well as the Vandread in its grip.
