The optimal number of crew was twelve in a solar system.

"How close is the solar system?" asked Ranma.

The computer screen in front of him flashed through various shots of space before replying. Solar system found. Sixty hours, twenty-seven minutes, at optimal speed.

"Let's head there," said Ranma.

Relaying instructions to helm.

Ranma smiled to himself as he considered that. Maybe there was problems with home according to that bit about some disease, but he at least knew something about it. He wouldn't be in the middle of nowhere. He could orbit the planet or something.

That left the various positions that would normally be held in a solar system, but now that he had Nabiki and his mother awake - that left the others.

Optimal number of crew for in-system activities: twelve. Currently three positions active.

"What kinda jobs need to be filled?" asked Ranma.

Crew for optimal operation during planetary operations mode.
01) Captain - Ranma Saotome
02) Chief Engineer - Nodoka Saotome
03) Helm - Nabiki Tendo
04) Astrogation - Not Filled.
05) Planetology - Not Filled.
06) Medical Officer - Not Filled.
07) Weapons Control - Not Filled.
08) Secondary Engineer - Not Filled
09) Secondary Engineer - Not Filled
10) Environmental Systems Specialist - Not Filled
11) Mission Specialist - Not Filled
12) Material Systems Operator - Not Filled

"Ya got secondary engineer twice," pointed out Ranma.

Chief Engineer oversees work of secondary engineers. Secondary engineers deal with emergencies and maintenance, freeing Chief Engineer to coordinate and deal with high priority issues.

"Uh huh," said Ranma, thinking having more people up and about sounded good. It was just who with what? "Let's try-"

• Astrogation, Genma Saotome. Akane Tendo, Planetology. Kasumi Tendo, Medical Officer. Ukyo Kuonji, Weapons Control...
• Ranma scratches his head, trying to figure out what would work best for the positions from people he knew.
• Ranma delegates. "Computer, find the best people for the positions among those you've got stored."
