Riding The Winds: Once Upon A Time, There Was A Martial Artist [Episode 216158]

by Linnara

In some Timelines, things go swimmingly, Fate and Destiny humming along like well-fed little kittens.

In other Timelines, though...

Saotome Nodoka looked at her husband, tears forming in her eyes. Genma looked back at her, sweatdropping.

"...You want to take our child on a training trip? But Husband..."

Genma sweatdropped some more, watching the child play around on the floor. What to do, what to do...

"Please, Nodoka. A child of a Martial Artist should learn the Martial Arts..."

Nodoka sniffed, wiping her eyes.

"But...but, Husband! Remember when all the doctors we consulted said that we could probably never conceive a child together? And then..."

Oh, Genma remembered, alright. He'd been so darned disappointed, too, and...

...And...

- Well, never mind that now.

"And then, one day, a miracle happened - I dreamed that a large shining light came into me, and then... Oh, that was one of the happiest days of my life, truly..."

Genma sighed, then, remembering the day that his wife had simply declared that she was pregnant, no if's or buts about it. He could still remember that sinking feeling trailing down his bones...he'd been so sure that Nodoka had lost her mind completely, that day...

And then, she'd turned out to actually be pregnant after all.

Genma looked at the child playing around with crayons and sighed. Such a cute little kid, too, if he said so himself.

Even if said child didn't look like either of them, really. At all.

" - Come on, Nodoka, our child is perfectly healthy! And strong, and fast, and everything! And so competitive - remember when that rich boy from the next street was doing those radio-car races? 'e cleaned their clocks out, seriously."

"But, but - " Nodoka mumbled. "I mean - "

Genma sighed, then. Well, yes, it wasn't like he didn't get what she was trying to say...

"I mean." Nodoka murmured. "I'm glad that she's so strong and everything, but - our Haruka is so unladylike, already! Everybody keeps thinking she's a boy, even though she's so cute..."

"Nodoka, Nodoka..." Genma sighed, then. "It's not like I want to take her away for years on end or something. Just a week or so, to begin with, alright? I mean, she is a girl and everything..."

" - Oh." Nodoka considered that. "A week? - Are you sure you can take care of her properly for a week?"

"Yes, yes, that's no problem." Genma sighed. "I just want to get her started on the basics properly, that's all - just get her started out on running up and down hills and stuff. I mean, she's a girl. It's not like she could actually be my heir or something, I don't think - well, I mean, it's not utterly impossible, but it's not very likely, all things considering..."

Genma trailed off, then. Oops. Maybe he should't have mentioned that.

Nodoka did not seemed to be especially upset about what he had said, however.

"Well, alright, then - if it's only a week."

"Oh, good." Genma sighed, then. " - Say, Nodoka? If you're that worried about Haruka being unladylike - why don't you try to teach her, you know, some womanly stuff? Cooking, sewing, flower arranging... maybe something to do with clothes..."

"I've already tried to teach her how to cut vegetables, but - " Nodoka sighed, then. "Well, I'll just have to try more, I suppose. Well, alright, then..."

Genma smiled at his wife, then. Well, alright, that had gone off better then he had expected...
