Said little boy was in the process of leaping out a window.
Little Ami did the appropriate thing for a little girl that age. She screamed. She also attempted to use her Talent to put a layer of ice out to catch the boy.
When she got to the window she immediately looked down to see what had happened. There was her ice ramp, glittering in the sun. There was, however, no little boy. A flitting shadow caused her to look up.
"Yeehaaaaaah!" said a little boy as he continued to do loops and cartwheels in the air.
"Wah?" asked Ami Mizuno, daughter of Doctor Mizuno, and Ace Talent in Ice Magic.
"Oh bother," said a nurse behind her, drawn by the scream. "Saotome's Ace Talent manifested this morning. That's the third time he's gone off like that."
"His Talent is flying?" asked Ami, standing back from the window to look at the nurse.
"His Talent is apparently Air Magic," said the nurse. "He can also generate 'wind blades' and 'air hammers' and the like. On the other hand he seems to enjoy flying."
Ami stuck her head back out the window, looked up at where her half-brother was apparently now doing the backstroke while orbiting the hospital at a height of about five hundred feet. "I see."
"I heard a scream," said another little girl, responding a little late. "What happened?"
"Ranma's flying around the building again," said the nurse, shaking her head. "He'll be back eventually. I've got other patients to take care of. You two can keep an eye on him."
"Right," said the two little girls.
Ranma laughed with pure delight as he used his Talent. He could reach out with it and touch the air around him, getting the feel for the various patterns in the air.
There were patterns. He could feel them as pockets of energy and different textures. This was a pocket of warmer air here, and this section of pavement was just right to cause warm air to rise above it in a circular vortex.
Flying though - that was just plain cool. And fun. And useful.
With a thought and an application of Will, Ranma shot up to a height where he could see the way the Earth curved off in all directions. He held a bubble of air around him, but the temperature made him shiver when the air cooled around him - so he quickly dove down to where it was warmer.
He wondered how fast he could go, but he was getting an audience and he was getting hungry. There was Ami, whom he understood was somehow going to become his half-sister sometime soon. THAT was going to be an odd situation. Then there was that other girl who kept trying to talk to him and stuff. What was her name again?
