Ryo was an inflicted lycanthrope rather than a natural one. This meant that he had only imperfect control over his alternate form ability. Oh, he could assume boar form whenever he wanted to, but ofttimes he assumed it when he did not want to; typically durring a full moon or when badly injured. When he did so, his personality was basically reduced to that of a wild boar, though some people considered this to be an improvement.
Like his dimensional counterpart, Ryo was extremely shy around women and the sight of naked female flesh caused him to take massive amounts of subdual damage (one reason why he left his clothing-optional nomadic tribe for civilised lands). Unlike his counterpart, Ryo did not just pass out, he transformed and his boar mind took control - somewhat akin to the nekoken technique, but with an actual physical change involved.
Unlike Ryo-barbarian, Ryo-boar unaffected by girls' charms, other than liking being around them a lot. They in turn considered him an large, ugly-but-cuddly pet (and better company than Ryo-barbarian so he was often lured into bathing areas). On the other hand, Ryo-boar was quite territorial and considered other males to be threats, and Ranma in particular was viewed as a rival.
