That they sold Rei units and Kaworu units was a little different, cloning technology was still debated in some areas as whether it should be used or not. Other than a few units out and about, neither was big sellers due to the Rei's lack of emotional response and the tendency of the Kaworu units to go deeply introspective and forget what it was they were supposed to do.
Brainstamping was another service that GEHERN offered, and direct-to-brain downloading of information was something that came out of research into their VirtuaBoy Game Systems. While the game market couldn't use the discoveries, at least legally, the slave marketing division had taken and run with it.
NERV had its own secrets and agendas however.
One of which was currently floating in a tube.
Four months previously:
"Switching to alternate power source," said Makoto Hyuga. "10%. 20%. 30%. 40%. Holding at 50%."
"Feed stable," said Shigeru Aoba, "beginning quantum penetration."
Ritsuko Akagi looked over the various displays, turned to Gendo, and nodded once.
"Begin operation," ordered Gendo.
"Bringing power up," said Makoto. "55%. 60%. 65%-"
"Pressure changing in test chamber," announced Ritsuko. "Air pressure has dropped by 10%. Temperature up by 5%. Air mix registering as slightly higher in carbon dioxide."
"Dimensional tunnel confirmed," said Satsuki Ooi. "Aperature is at 3cm."
"...80%," continued Makoto. "85%, 90%..."
clatter
"An object was thrown through the aperature from the other side?" asked Fuyutsuki.
"It's a kunai," announced Aoi Magami, pulling up a display. "It was thrown through when the aperature was at twenty centimeters across."
"Holding at 100%," announced Makoto.
VUMMMMMMMMMMM!
"Field showing signs of instability," said Satsuki. "Aperature is at 1.98 meters."
"Send the retrieval squad," said Gendo.
One of the uniformed individuals threw a stun grenade through the field, then charged in after a minute to allow the sonic field to cut out. Others followed, a variety of weapons ready for use.
When the uniformed Section 13 group returned, it was with four individuals.
Present:
"Uniforms?!" asked Ranma, glancing back at his slavegirls after they'd been 'prepped' and he'd gone through checking various details regarding equipment and legal paperwork.
"The material is fairly tough and cleans easily," said Ritsuko.
"Is something wrong, Master?" asked Maya, looking over her uniform.
"I suppose not," admitted Ranma after awhile. "It's just that..." "They don't HAVE to wear these," said Ritsuko. "So where are you going after here?"
"Pops got it arranged," said Ranma. "We're heading to -"
