Chained World - Rei: Foreign Excursion [Episode 222243]

by Kender

"Pops got it arranged," said Ranma. "We're heading to China. Pops said he's gotta surprise for me."

There were so many things that Ritsuko could say about it, but she merely sighed and went with the simple question. "Oh, do you have any idea of what that might be?"

"Yeah. Training. Other than that? Not a clue."

"No idea?"

"Don't even have a little hint," the pigtailed boy replied with a dismissive shrug.

"Excuse me, Master, but isn't that a little... problematic?" Maya asked, her brow creasing in concern.

"Actually, it's pretty much business as usual. My old man has never been one for lettin' me know anythin' 'bout his plans until right before he needs me to do something. 'Course, that also assumes that he's ever got a plan, which I've got to tell you isn't always the case."

Something about this made the scientist want to pinch the bridge of her nose, but she let it be for the time being. Being 'in control' was her style, and she wasn't about to let that go so easily. Unfortunately, she had a sneaking suspicion that this wasn't going to go quite as easily as she'd hoped.

At the very least though, she was going to have to keep track of this group through their travels, which would be problematic enough, but the international aspect of it was going to be a hassle in and of itself. This wasn't going to be as bad as going to some countries, but it was bad enough, considering that they were going to go to China, which wasn't all that welcoming of foreign observers on their grounds sometimes. As soon as they were to find out that part of an experiment was to be tested out in their nation, they were likely to react, and, from what she knew of the politicians there, it wasn't going to be all that friendly of a response. At best, they'd just put their own little spin on it, but she hardly held out hope that they'd actually be too restrained with their anger.

That was where being an international organization was going to come in handy. It might not give them the best of leverage to get an inroad into the nation, but at least they could work with the Chinese officials, rather than run roughshod over their sensibilities. Of course, given the concept of someone entering to use ones' land to ones' own benefit would offend anyone, which would help in letting them smooth the ruffled feathers of the officials.

If anything, the bigger headache came from considering Genma Saotome though, as the man hadn't been able to recognize that being willing to work with them might actually be helpful. Okay, so she wasn't looking to be playing totally above the board with the man, but he could at least give her some slack and actually set out an organized strategy then. At least in that case, he'd be able to give them an itinerary or something, so that they could get things running smoothly. But, no, he had to be a clueless bum who only thought long enough to get what he wanted.

Sighing to herself as she wondered where in this world would find someone who would want that big jackass around, she closed her eyes and shook her head.

"What was that about?" Ranma murmured, tilting his head so that he could look over his shoulder at her.

"Nothing, really," the scientist told him. "It's just that your father doesn't have much consideration for the trouble he causes, does he?"

"Some of it, yeah."

"He does?"

"Sure, when he has to run away from it, like after an angry mob comes to chase him."

The sad thing was that Ritsuko really could see that being the case, and knew that Genma really wouldn't do much to aid her and her organization's plans. She really didn't need him to put support behind it, but he did have a habit of making things... interesting at times. All that she could do was to hope that his wanderings wouldn't make more trouble for her than they were worth, while:
