"Headmaster? Headmaster...is something wrong?"
Albus Dumbledore looked up. Jonathan...no, James Potter looked back at him, a slightly worried smile on his face.
"...Ahh...I am sorry, James..." Albus smiled. "How is Lily? And little Harry?"
"Oh, they're both doing just fine, Headmaster - Albus. Why, Harry broke his first crib already!"
Albus sighed, then, though inwardly. The Potter tradition of massive manifestations of uncontrolled wandless magic in their children was carrying on just fine, apparently, Muggleborn mother or no Muggleborn mother.
"...That is good news, James. Such robust magic in such a young child - a good omen, indeed!"
"Oh, yes, Headmaster - I mean, I was worried, though I tried not to let Lily see - um. The rest of Lily's family has never even shown a drop of magic, as far as we can tell, anyway, and - "
"Ahh." Albus twinkled at him, hoping that that would make him stop babbling for a moment, anyhow.
"Well, I mean, you did assure us that with two clearly magical parents, the possibility of the magic being passed on was pretty good, but still..."
Albus nodded, trying not to tune James out. One could never be sure when somebody would just happen to drop some kind of Really Important Infomation, after all.
"And now, Lily's saying that she wants to have some more children - a girl next, maybe? I mean, even Lily thinks the Weasley brood is a bit too much, but one or even two more - "
"Ahh, I see." Albus murmured, wondering if James had even thought of the possibility of their next child turning out to be a Squib. Magical childrens and Squib children in the same family...
But surely - Lily would think of it, if not her husband? If not - well, he'd just have to arrange to talk with her in a bit, he supposed.
"But not right now, of course - later, later. She's looking into ways to increase the possibility of having a girl, though, I think..."
James happily babbled on. Albus sighed, yet again.
It wasn't that he was all that against the idea of James and Lily Potter having more children, of course - on the contrary, if things had just been a bit different, he would have been trying to subtly encourage them to have more children. The thought of the eminent Potter Bloodline being massively - well, he of all people shouldn't think 'contaminated', he supposed, but he couldn't really think of a better word right now - by Muggle blood was always massively amusing, after all.
Well, well, well - one never knew how things would turn out, eh? Albus smiled gently, reminding himself to go visit the Potter graveyards just in case. As well as make sure, yet again, that there weren't any magical portraits of the Potter family just being left about somewhere. Having ghosts and portraits screaming in horror at the thought of their august Bloodline being contaminated by all those awful Muggle cooties - no, no, that wouldn't do at all, eh?
Especially after he'd gone all that trouble to convince James - subtly, mind you, subtly - that his deceased parents wouldn't have really hated the idea of a Muggleborn daughter-in-law all that much, once they would have gotten used to the idea, Times Had Changed after all, etc, etc.
And anyway - it's not like James and Lily were a bad match at all, really. And the 'hybrid vigor' or whatever that the Muggle scientists talked about sometimes probably would be good for the Potter Line in the long run, soo...
Albus smiled yet again. Yes, well - his long-running - hmm, what should he call it, a 'policy', maybe? - to subtly and gently encourage those of certain Pureblood families to mix and marry with Halfbloods and sometimes outright Muggleborns did seem to be paying off, in the long run. It didn't really seem to weaken the Pureblood families in question as much as he had used to think it might - outright Squibs were actually still quite rare, even among children with a rather large amount of Muggle blood, it seemed - but on the other hand, people who actually had spouses or children with a noticeable amount of Muggle blood in them tended to become rather noticeably Un-Deatheater-friendly, which was all to the good, in his humble opinion.
Well, then, alright now...
