So, they warily surrounded the beast, waiting for it to give some sort of sign that it would do something dangerous. That wasn't to say that it would mean to, but with enough bulk, or the accidental use of flame, many lives could be lost. They readied themselves to strike if need be, having already hypothesized exactly what would give them the edge in a surprise attack.
Not that it was particularly needed, as a pretty redheaded girl seemed to be enough to tame the massive beast. As she came out of her dorm and walked over to it, the creature showed almost instant obedience to her. Rather than cry out like a caged monster, it leaned down its head and nudged her just enough to get her attention. Laughing slightly, she patted its cheek, seeming to get a pleased sound akin to a mix between a trill and an whale's song in return.
"Okay, are we just going to let this go on as it has been?" muttered one soldier under his breath.
Another of the soldiers on observation duty snorted. "Are you going to try to get that thing to leave her?"
"Uhh... guess not."
"Didn't think so."
Many children would have at least shrunk in fear of Mungo. He was huge, mean looking, and tended to lean over people. Youngsters would have likely run in terror of something so threatening, no matter how much of an assurance they'd been given. Knowing that this was a monster from the nether realm would have just made most kids fear him even more.
Usagi Tsukino wasn't like most children.
"Do you want some?" the little blonde girl asked the oni as she held up some soft serve towards him. "It's really yummy."
"Mungo thank for offer. Mungo really like princess' dumpling headed friend," he replied, taking the cone from her as delicately as he could manage.
"Thanks...."
Naru just smiled and giggled as she enjoyed her new friend getting along with her old one.
"Oh, he's just so cute," chirped one of the little girls huddle around one corner of the preschool.
Another girl reached over and pinched one furry cheek, stretching it as much as she could. "You're right, Chiharu! And he's so soft too!"
"Lemme see, Maki!"
"I love the tail!" a third girl cried.
"And those ears!" piped in a fourth girl. "So cute!"
"They are nice, right, Rika?"
"You're right too, Naoko!"
"Ow, ow, ow!" went the object of their affections.
Wincing just a bit, Sakura Kinomoto pulled her newest companion from her friends and sighed. "Come on guys. Be nicer...."
"Just why girls get so interested in stuffed animals, I don't know," grumped a nearby boy.
"Fat lot you know," Maki snorted. "Stop talking like you know anything."
"Besides, who asked you," Chiharu snapped, grinding her fist down into the top of his head.
"They're having fun, aren't they?" commented the girl standing with Sakura as she smiling brightly.
"Tomoyo, I'm not sure about that," Sakura told her friend.
"Maybe I should have just come in my other form," the focus of the girls' earlier attention grumbled.
"That might have been worse," his partner sighed, trying to not imagine Kero's lion form wandering around her school.
"Okay, so we've got a lot of familiars around now," Doctor Mizuno murmured under her breath.
Cologne smiled at the younger woman and nodded. "Rather looks like like it."
"Our problem now is to classified all the different forms they can take."
"You do have to understand that there are a lot of creatures in the old stories, and who knows how many more the ancients might have missed, or never even known of."
"I'd suppose that'd be understandable...." the doctor trailed off.
"But this is a different thing."
"Quite different."
That brought a grin up on Cologne's face as she watched a young girl who was rather tall for her age being followed around by a big orange cat like thing, while:
