"Hey," said Naruto, looking from Hinata's father to the now-depressed Hinata. "Don't say that. Hinata's great."
Hiashi considered Naruto for a brief moment. On the one hand, he was a father who was genuinely gratified that someone would stick up for his daughter. On the other, he was Clan Head. He had to be tough, he had to be judgemental, he had to be merciless when it came to such matters. That Naruto, though apparently unsuspecting of it himself, was Hinata's fiance through that bet with Sasuke Uchiha's uncle was beside the point.
Hmmm. Maybe he could manage both. Arrange for his daughter's happiness while maintaining the tough disciplinarian attitude needed for the master of a ninja clan. "I'll make you a bet. If you can prove that Hinata is less worthless with your empowerment technique. IF. Then you can have her."
"Hah?" asked Naruto, flatfooted. "Have her? What are you talking about?"
"I'll approve the engagement between you two that she wants," said Hiashi. Trying to anger Hinata had never worked. Maybe embarassment?
"HAH?!" asked Naruto who had heard that, followed it to some extent, spun to look at Hinata and saw the blush and the way she was trying to turtle inside her clothes and might not have been the brightest ninja in the village - was capable of having an idea pounded into his head. "WHA?!"
"If you fail though, I forbid you two from ever seeing each other," said Hiashi Hyuga. Now to see if he had read the situation correctly.
Hinata acted as if she were going to melt down for one moment, then flinched as if she'd been heavily slapped. "naruto-kun?"
"Uh, yeah," said Naruto, trying to get his brain kick-started at this point as it had completely shut down.
"Invoke me, please," said Hinata in barely over a whisper.
"Right," said Naruto, glad to be having something to DO as it would take him some time to work out this situation mentally. "Hinata Hyuga. Show me the power within you. Invoking contract!"
Water swirled up in a column, through which her naked form was briefly outlined, then metal clanged into place as the armor fitted itself to her body.
"Dragon Saint, Hinata," said Hinata as she settled back into a taijutsu stance.
"I don't see how this is going to-" began Hiashi Hyuga.
"Dragon Psychic Technique, Dragon Sho Ryu HA!"
POOM!
Kakashi looked up at the hole in the ceiling, then back to where Hinata was surrounded by chakra that burned with an aqua-colored flame.
"Whoaaaaa," said Naruto, looking up the hole into the distance. "Awesome."
"Thank you, Naruto," said Dragon Hinata. She felt as if power was flooding through her. Like she could do anything, face anything. "I've wanted to tell you something. I've wanted to say something to you for a long time."
"Yeah?" asked Naruto, curious.
"I've been watching you for a long time, Naruto-kun," said Dragon Hinata, "and I've seen your smile. You were an example to me, to never give up. I've wanted to walk beside you for a long time because I lo-"
Dragon Hinata faded back to regular Hinata, though her hair remained a little longer than it had been originally.
"-because?" prompted Naruto.
"B-b-because I lo... I lo..." Hinata stammered, looked elsewhere, blushed heavily and sweated lots. "I lo-"
"Love," said Kakashi, just sitting back and watching this. And getting heavily embarassed FOR the young girl.
"Love?" asked Naruto.
"eeep," said Hinata, feeling faint. "I, that is, I don't, I mean..."
"You love ramen?!" exclaimed Naruto with a grin, figuring it out (or so he thought). "Great! Let's go to Ichiraku sometime."
"Y-y-yes," said Hinata, drooping and looking exhausted.
"You really need to work on that," offered Kakashi.
"Someone want to figure out where Hinata's father is going to land and send some medic-nin?" asked the Hokage.
