Restart Cascade!: The Restart Goes On And On! [Episode 219580]
by Linnara
Rules:
- Below are six options - five restarts, and a restart cascade option.
- Use the restarts as normal. If the only option left is the cascade, make a copy of this episode in that location to continue the cascade, and use one of the five new options.
- Don't overdo it - adding one cascade level at a time is quite enough.
- Posting these rules with each new cascade level is suggested, but not mandatory.
- While naming your restarts in clever ways can be fun, don't go overboard on choosing names that limit the potential of the new story. (i.e. Don't use the main restart cascade to post your own thread ideas - use a branch point)
- Please, keep the cascade alive.
Moderators' Addition (July 15, 2004)
- As this cascade, being the only moderator-approved one, allows for infinite repetition of the "Restart" option found attached to other episodes often without any apparent justification, posting "Restart" options in regular episodes are no longer needed. Stop doing that. It's annoying.
- In addition, and slightly off-topic but needs to be noted, episodes only need one "Something Else" option. There is no need to fill up the six options all with "SE". Just let the list end at however many options you can think up, plus one (1) Something Else.
- In addition to #5, for the purpose of keeping the Restart Cascade! episode list clean and easy to use, episodes that are not of the Cascade should have different thread tags. That means that if you start a thread off the Cascade, rename the thread immediately! This as opposed to waiting one or two episodes like is often done on the other Restart threads.
- As per #3, The Cascade is to be extended as needed. And no more. Extending the Cascade before all "Restart" options are taken will be dealt with as all regular cascading fate splits are.
- There will be NO fate-splitting the "Restart" options. See above.
- Episodes should not be blank. If you're not going to post the Cascade rules on Cascade extensions, post a clever quote or something amusing. But keep it short. Cascade episodes should not exceed one page.
Moderators' Addition (September 28, 2004)
- Corollary to rule #10, as there are those who need clarification. "Extending as needed" also includes "extending when needed." Therefore, when I say "extend the Cascade when all options in the previous level have been taken", I mean "extend the Cascade when all options in the previous level have been taken and you need to use the next option immediately! Do not extend the Cascade for the sake of extending the Cascade!
- When reposting the rules, copy the HTML source (not the HTML display) and preserve the formatting. Say NO to GiantBlockOfText-itis!
Moderator's Addition (December 18, 2004)
- The options to the Restart Cascade are to read Restart. That's all, NO exceptions or variants.
Moderator's Addition (March 1, 2005)
- There will be no idea discussions on the comment boards to the Restart Cascade!. None. Do not post ideas and concepts. Instead, write an episode from that idea, post it, and discuss as you like in the comments on that episode. No, you may not post a fatesplit or any such null episode for this purpose.
Moderator's Addition (January 29, 2006)
- Restart Cascade! episodes which are not signed will be credited to the first author that extends from that episode, under the assumption that such was the intention of the author as consistent with rule #13. Because unsigned and unclaimed Cascade! episodes, and thus rule #13 violations, have started to become a trend, further such occurrences may lead to IP-bans of those who post them.
Moderator's Addition (June 3, 2007)
- Threads extended from the Restart Cascade! must have a discernible story direction and make noticeable progress toward that direction within the first few episodes. If you don't know what it means for a story to have a direction, what it means for a story to progress, or how those things are detected, I recommend you research the matter; otherwise, extend from the Cascade! at your own risk, and keep backups.
Moderator's Addition (January 14, 2008)
- The correct format of an episode's thread tag + title is:
<thread title>: <episode title> or <thread title> - <thread subtitle>: <episode title>
where the dash separating title from subtitle is the single hyphen found between 0 and = on the keypad (therefore not an n-dash or m-dash). There are spaces separating the hyphen from the text on either side. Do not use dashes or colons in any other way within a thread tag or title. This rule applies to all new threads. Note that there is usually no reason for a subtitle in an extension from the Restart Cascade!.
- Episodes extended from the Restart Cascade! must have thread tags and titles that are spelled and capitalized correctly.
