On To The Future: We Shall Eat Cake [Episode 220491]

by Linnara

Nunnelly vi Britannia looked at the cake on her paper plate.

It was good cake, she did have to admit - much too good to eat on a paper plate with plastic sporks, probably.

If this was any other situation, that is.

She looked back at the clock on the wall - ahh, it was good to be able to see again, even if walking seemed to be out of the question for now and probably for the foreseeable future, seeing how things seemed to be going.

Hmmm, though - it did seem to be an hour since she had first started eating a piece of the cake, and since she seemed to be alright for the moment...

"Ahh - excuse me, Kallen-san? Kouzuki Kallen of the Black Knights?"

There was a shuffling behind the bars across her room, and then a by now familiar red-head appeared, pushing her way between people.

" - Hiya Princess, what's up?"

Nunnelly smiled at her, gesturing at the cake on her paper plate.

"It's been an hour since I started eating this, and I seem to be all right, so... Do you think any of you people want some?"

Kallen blinked, eyes widening. "Oh! Ahh, yeah, cake'll be nice, I'm sure... but..."

"It's a very big cake, Kallen-san. I'm sure there would be enough for everybody."

Kallen hmmm'd to herself, nodding.

"There's just one thing, though..."

Kallen snickered. "There's always 'just one thing' with you people - ahh, never mind. What is it?"

"I want my big brother Schneizel to get some. And Lord Maldini, too - um, he is with him tonight, isn't he?"

"...I think so." Kallen turned around. "Hey, Gino, Gino - somebody call Lord Weinberg over, 'kay? Oh, there you are - is Kanon with his Highness tonight?"

"Mmmmmm, I think so... Should I go check? What is this?"

Nunnelly couldn't see Gino Weinberg directly, since he was on the men's section of the cells, but she could hear him just fine. Many years of being blind had honed her hearing to the max, after all.

"The Princess is saying she's gonna give us some of her cake, but she wants her brother and Kanon to get some, too. And it's safe, too, she says - she tested it."

"Well, poisoning us when most of us...um..." Gino stopped, mumbling to himself.

"Yeah, yeah, right. "

Poisoning the cake when most of the prisoners here were slated for public executions the very next day didn't really make much sense, Nunnelly did realize that. Old habits died hard, though - and she'd given up on guessing what her brother Lelouch was going to do next, anyhow.

Plus, nobody had seen fit to inform her if she was supposed to be executed along with the rest of the remnants of the Black Knights and Schneizel's Forces, anyhow, so...

"Well, alright - does anybody have any idea how to get the cake to people without squashing it entirely?"

After the cake had been carefully passed through the bars (squashed between a folded paper plate but still edible, hopefully), Nunnelly took advantage the opportunity to wave Kallen over.

"Mmm? Yes, Princess?"

"I...couldn't see much, but my brother Schneizel sounded like he's been hurt. Do you know what happened?"

Kallen sighed, then.

"Well, it's not as bad as it looks, it seems, but, um...from what I heard..."

Nunnelly leaned over to the bars as Kallen tried to whisper in her ear.

"It was the former Crown Prince. He'd...had some kind of family in Pendragon, it seems. Some Mistresses or Royal Bastards or both or something like that, and..."

Nunnelly's jaw dropped open. It had been Odysseus?

"He just jumped him and started beating on him, from what I heard...it took about six soldiers to drag him off, they say. I dunno, though - well, at least that one doesn't seem to be here with us..."

True, that. Nunnelly sighed. The Fleija'ing of Pendragon had been... Gaah. She remembered when Schneizel had told her that most of Pendragon had been evacuated already, and how Cornelia had shifted when he said that, and wished, just for a moment, that the cake that particular brother was eating now actually had been poisoned.

And the worst thing was... She really did understand just why he had done that. Or she thought she did, anyhow. Even if she wished she didn't.

Nunnelly listened to everybody eating her cake, and waited for the dawn.
