That didn't mean he wasn't averse to other manners of acquiring power. He'd helped destroy the Forest Village. He'd had a good measure of revenge against them. Though the ones he'd most wanted to capture had evaded him. From that he'd acquired money, experimental subjects, and influence.
Power was power, after all.
"The Sound Trio have been defeated," said Kabuto, who came no further than the doorway to make his announcement.
"Not unexpected, they were quite disposable," answered Orochimaru. "What have we learned from their defeat?"
"The two ninja from Konoha are joined by the two weaponers of the Saotome Clan," said Kabuto.
Orochimaru stopped, the scalpel in one hand glinting in the light as he apparently regarded the latest victim on the table. "You're sure." It was not quite a question. Kabuto knew how much incorrect or incomplete information could affect Orochimaru's moods. Orochimaru in a bad mood was not particularly safe to be around.
"The bird handler couldn't get closer himself, but Foebane was definitely there," said Kabuto. "The presence of which complicates our efforts to gather information."
"Yes," said Orochimaru. "Foebane's presence by itself makes approaching them difficult. I'd like to study it, but it might complicate things a touch."
Isaribi watched from the lake as the group passed. She was aware of the birds, carrion crows that one of Orochimaru's crew controlled.
Still, she had to do Orochimaru's bidding or she'd never be returned to normal.
Monitor, wait, and then support the attack when it came.
Genma held the chain, feeling it shift slightly. First one way, then another.
Tenten held her own weapon, collapsed down into the shortest length it would go.
"Someone in the lake, another deeper in the forest," said Ranma.
"So a water jutsu user, and the other is to support the first?" asked Rock Lee.
"I think so," said Might Guy. "Both are waiting for something, so I don't think they're independent."
"We'll follow the river up," suggested Genma. "How's your Shadow Clone, Ranma?"
"Actually, I AM the Shadow Clone," said Ranma. "I can maintain a single Clone for most of the day unless I use other techniques."
"Don't use Blessed Vision if you can avoid it, that's the most draining of your techniques," said Genma.
"Like I didn't know that," grumbled Ranma.
"I would have thought Spirit Bullet was more draining," said Might Guy.
"Make that three in the lake," said Genma abruptly. "Two more moving towards the first."
