Dark Requiem: Of Felines and Wands (That Are Not Really Toys) [Episode 220504]

by Linnara

Nunnelly stared, floating in the darkness, trying to make out just what was going on.

What was this?

The darkness was wrong, that night. And predatory. Almost like it was alive.

"Shut up. This is a dream, and I'm about to wake up any minute now."

The purple eyed boy called 'Charles' fretted, eyes wide and darting. He was hiding under what appeared to be a table of sorts, along with...whoever he was talking to.

"No it isn't. And you may make it out alive, but your brother isn't going to wake up if the monster eats his life energy away. ...He doesn't have very much of it to spare, anyway."

The voice was quiet in the dark room.

"I know that - " The boy stopped, clenching his teeth. "And this is just a nightmare, anyway. There are no such things like monsters that such people's life energy away."

The dark slight thing gave him a slight feline shrug, creeping slowly under the table towards him.

"What happens, happens, whether anybody believes it's possible or not. Denying it wouldn't do you any good, boy."

"Stop calling me 'boy'."

"...Should I call you Charles, then?"

The boy hiccupped, scrubbing at his eyes.

Just not 'boy', damn it. And anyway, this is all a nightmare. And I'm going to wake up any moment, and..." The boy took a deep breath. "And anyway, cat's don't talk. So there."

Then it's a good thing that I'm not just a cat, isn't it now?"

The dark feline figure looked up at the boy, tail lashing.

"Look, boy. If you want to save your twin, just take this - " A small something dropped on the floor - "Yes, yes, just pick it up - And yes, before you comment, I know it looks like a cheap child's toy, all right - "

And it did look like a cheap child's toy, a toy wand, actually - except for the strange aura that it had...

There was something wrong about the darkness, that night...

"Or you could just keep on cowering here, and wake up to a dead twin in the morning. - If you're lucky, and that thing gets full for tonight with just your brother, with his decidedly low supply of life energy, that is. - It's not like anybody would ever blame you for anything, is it now?"

The cat-thing with the Moon-mark on it's forehead looked at the boy, purple eyes blazing.

"Or, you could just pick up that little gaudy stick and say the magic words.

'Moon Knight Power, Transform!'

The boy blinked at the feline. And at the little stick. And then - back at the feline. Hysterical laughter was starting to bubble up his throat.

"S-S-S...Seriously??"

The black and purple-eyed feline looked somewhat embarrassed at that. "I didn't have a hand in any of the designing parameters, boy, if that's what you're asking me. Or the keywords, for that matter." The boy blinked yet again at that, and then looked on towards the unnatural darkness that seemed to fill the corridors.

"All I have to do is...hold the wand-thing and...say that?"

"For now, yes. - You'll do it, then?"

"...I..." The boy blinked, sighing. "Yes. I still think it's a dream, but...I'm not going to risk Vivi getting even sicker, I'm really not."

"Alright, then."

The black feline with the Moon-Mark on it's forehead grinned at him wolfishly - a strange expression on a cat-thing, to be sure.

"You can call me...Lelouch."
