There was her target over there, alone, watching all the others. She had her weapon in hand as she sidled closer, sneaking ever closer before her nerve could completely fail. Closer she shuffled. Inch by difficult inch she edged. Creeping up on her unsuspecting target.
"H-h-h-here!"
Her target blinked as she held out the chocolate with trembling hands. "Huh."
"P-p-please," whispered Hinata, letting her bangs fall down and hide her face as she bowed, still presenting the chocolate.
"F-f-for me?" asked Naruto in disbelief, hesitating.
"y-y-yes," said Hinata, barely keeping from bolting for a hiding spot.
"Uhm, gee thanks," said Naruto, taking it and looking at it uncertainly.
"Th-thank-" THUD!
"Weird," said Naruto. Was she meaning to give this to Sasuke? Or maybe she couldn't get near Sasuke and she couldn't think of who else to give it to?
Putting the chocolate down, Naruto decided to make the girl more comfortable as he tried to figure out why. Maybe it was giri-choco though, as this was the girl he'd saved a few years back. Who spent an awful lot of time blushing and looking elsewhere whenever he looked at her.
Naruto felt better about that, now that he'd figured it out. Maybe when she woke up, he should try to find whatever was wrong with her that she kept turning red and fainting when he tried to be nice.
The Cloud nin signalled his fellows. Vengeance would be theirs.
"I get to kill the bitch," said Gotan, cracking his knuckles. "You keep the kids penned in, Bokru. You keep their teacher occupied Funaho."
"We should wait till they go home AFTER school, less problems striking then," said Funaho.
"Stick to the plan!" said Gotan, looking angrily at his subordinate. "We'll be in and out before they know what's going on, then it's a race back to the border before they can get their ANBU after us."
"It's odd though," said Funaho, checking her scrolls. "Konoha has got some of the nastiest SOBs in the shinobi world in their ROOT, but their security sucks."
"Just be grateful for small favors," said Bokru as he adjusted his hat.
"Good," said Danzo as the report was given. These ninja from Cloud would kill the Hyuga heir, infuriate the Ninetails, and reinforce the image of the boy as a destroyer when the one child determined to befriend him was killed.
Everything was going according to plan.
"So, uhm," said Naruto as he saw lavender eyes blinking awake, "do you want to be my friend?"
Hinata blinked again, her eyes looking at the boy who'd apparently slid off the bench to sit next to her. Not trusting herself to speak, she just managed to nod once.
"I kinda understand if you don't... you do?!" asked Naruto.
Hinata managed to nod again, still not trusting her voice.
Of course, when she found herself glomped by an enthusiastic Naruto, she fainted again.
"AHHHHHH! I broke her!"
"No you didn't," said Choji as he ate a piece of chocolate that someone had just left sitting. Finder's keepers, right? "She's just weird."
