"So you're Stars of Destiny too ?" The exorcism had gone without a hitch and Hotaru Tomoe had been freed of Mistress Nine's possession. Once the ritual had ended, the young girl had glomped her savior and mumbled thanks while crying her eyes out. She was currently dozing off, comfortably snuggled against Ranma's body. The young werecheetah didn't dare move, the girl obviously needed all the comfort and reassurance he could give. The goddesses thought it was cute. Ranma had already decided he would take care of the young girl from now on.
"Oh my, yes !" Belldandy was so much like Kasumi Tendo in voice and demeanor that it was a little scary "We know what you want to do and we approve wholeheartedly. We would be happy and honored to join you in your quest"
"That's right !" exclaimed Skuld. The young goddess revealed her last invention "Behold my brand new Star Sensor EX ! Connected to this old tablet, it will tally up the stars who have joined our efforts. Look !"
She was right. Ranma saw that a few names had appeared on the rock of the huge tablet, as if they had suddenly been carved by an invisible hand :
Chikai Star - Keiichi Morisato
Chisa Star - Belldandy
Chizen Star - Hotaru Tomoe
Chikou Star - Ranma Saotome
Chitan Star - Banpei
Chisu Star - Skuld
Chiin Star - Urd
"Seven so far. One hundred and one to go..." said Ranma "Who's Banpei ?" Skuld pointed to the short expressionless robot standing guard in the courtyard "Oh..."
"There's another thing, ranma-san" Belldandy said "As a Star of Destiny, you have been chosen to be the wielder of a True Rune. Hold out your right hand, please..." Ranma complied and Belldandy touched it with her own. There was brief flare of light. Now a strange-looking drawing was etched on the back of his hand's skin "As you grow more experienced and confident, you'll access the powers the True Rune of Change grants you. Others will inherit runes like that or less powerful versions"
"All right..." Ranma was still a little mistrustful. Magic always unnerved him after his past experiences "I have a question : Do you know who is our enemy ? I suppose he must be very powerful for the gathering of the 108 stars to be necessary..."
Belldandy's smile vanished and a sad look came over her face "Yes, yopu have guessed right. Our foe is..."
