Dark Requiem: Just Whose Funeral Is It, Anyhow?? [Episode 223532]

by Linnara

The girl known as Nina Einstein wiped angry tears out of her eyes with her elbows, her hands still gloved.

"Charles, Charles, really, Charles. Only you could mess up your own wish fulfillment fantasy that much, you know? The Emperor of a third of the world, baah. A 108 consorts? I mean, why'd you have to make them the exact number of Buddist sins, eh?"

And that...'Marianne'. Well. Never mind that now.

That was over and done with. Well. Probably. Maybe.

"Burns, eh? Wonder what you were fighting - well, you were the best of them all, y'know, of all the Magical Warriors who protected the World, though yeah, I do know I'm biased - "

Nina sighed, patting burned skin.

"Well, I'm getting your body clean now at least, so that's good, I suppose. Well alright, you wanted your twin back and not-dead, that wasn't so bad, I suppose, and you wanted - me - out of that bloody wheelchair and walking, which is totally fab by the way, thanks Charlie, and you must have been listening when I said I wanted to be smart as Einstein as well I suppose, but - "

Nina turned the body over. Just a little more now.

"But then there were all those pieces of you walking about, like multiple personalities or fragments of your imagination except that they all had different bodies, and there were so many substitutes of me too - except that Princess Nunnally was Lulu - Prince Lelouch's sister, not his cousin. Or his love. Whatever."

Nina patted the body's cheek.

"Nina Einstein is one thing, but Henrietta Nina Pendragon was Charles N Pendragon's cousin, remember? Oh, you're dead, right -silly me."

Nina sighed, then.

"Hey, hey, I'm done here - where's the uniform?"

Everybody watched as Nina used makeup to paint the body's cheeks.

"Charles wasn't particularly religious, though if you're planning to bury him in with his grandmother's family plot, doing some kind of Buddist ceremony would probably be a good idea. Any ideas?"

"Ahem." The Earl cleared his throat. "Do a simple Guardian ceremony, cremate, and do whatever seems to be a good idea with the ashes, maybe?"

"That sounds all right." Nunnally murmured, relieved.

"Yup, that sounds right to me too - except that this is Charles N Pendragon's funeral, not Lelouch vi Britannia's. Lelouch's final rites - " Nina pointed to Nunnally, then - "Is her thing."

"Things are going to be difficult enough without a body to show people..."

Nunnally sighed.

"You'll figure something out. Make a doll or something, if you have to."

Nunnally sighed yet again. She might really have to, at this rate...
