"The Aburame family would have been our first choice for this assignment," confessed the Hokage. "Unfortunately, those of the Forest do not trust the Aburame family not to steal their secrets."
Kakashi sighed. "They have secrets?"
"Whether they do or not, THEY think they do," said the Hokage.
Kakashi shrugged. "So why my team? Guy's team might be a better choice for an investigation."
"True, having someone with the Byakugan along might make for a good choice," agreed the Hokage. "Unfortunately, Guy's team is on another mission."
Kakashi shook his head. "This sounds like a mission that requires delicacy and subtlety."
"Unfortunately, the only team available right now is your own," said the Hokage.
"present"
"Bugs?" repeated Naruto, making a face.
"Very special bugs," said Kakashi, spreading a scroll. "These are the bugs who are milked for an ingredient used for the ink to make paper bombs."
"Oh," said Naruto and Sakura, suddenly understanding why these bugs were important.
"Unfortunately these bugs have a tendency to explode if you handle them wrong," said Kakashi, pointing to the illustration on the scroll.
"Looks kinda like a rhinocerous beetle," said Sakura, thinking that wasn't as disgusting as some other bugs. "How big is it?"
"The same size as the illustration, actually," said Kakashi.
Sakura blinked, put her hand next to the illustration, and noted that her spread fingers didn't quite cover the same space. "BIG bugs."
"Wow," said Naruto, thinking they actually looked kind of neat. "They explode like paper bombs then?"
"Yes, that's why they require a delicate touch," said Kakashi. Who knew quite well that his team here was NOT big on subtle and delicate.
"They're 'milked' like cows or something?" asked Naruto.
"Yes, and treated one way, their spray can make either an ink for paper bombs or a colorful dye that isn't explosive at all," said Kakashi. "I myself had no idea how useful these little bugs were until after I received this assignment."
"Oh," said Naruto. If these bugs were important, then this wasn't such a lame mission after all.
"How can you call these 'little'?" asked Sakura, twitching slightly as she contemplated getting close to bugs this size.
"More details we'll have to learn when we get there," said Kakashi as he snapped the scroll closed again with a flick of his wrist.
