"The 'Paw Of The Abyss'?" asked Naruto.
"No," said Kakashi, still putting weights on the corners of the maps.
"The 'Riverfront Of Wet Dreams'?" asked Naruto.
"No, though I do keep an ear out for a mission there, I never seem to be able to get one," said Kakashi sounding as if he found this personally annoying.
"The 'Forest Of Lost Hope'?" asked Sakura as she looked over the map.
"That's right," said Kakashi.
"Who names this stuff?" asked Naruto.
"Land Of Fire Tourism Board," answered Kakashi, pointing now at a strip of woods between a grassy area and a section of mountains. "This is the 'Forest Of Lost Hope' which is bordered by the Plain Of Broken Dreams and the Mountains Of Blood-Stained Daggers."
Sasuke frowned. "The Tourism Board?"
"I didn't say they were any good at their jobs," noted Kakashi Hayate. "Though there ARE stories behind each of the names they stick on these areas."
"Oh, cool," said Naruto, warming to the idea. "So there was a massive ninja battle in those mountains and stuff like that?"
"Well, yes," said Kakashi. "In the case of the Forest Of Lost Hope, there was a group who retired to that area after the last shinobi war - the survivors of the fight in the mountains in fact."
"Oh? So what hope did they lose?" asked Naruto.
"They tried to settle down to a peaceful life, forsaking the ways of violence that cost them so dearly," said Kakashi. "Especially as none of them escaped injury. They gave up on being ninja, settling for lives as farmers and herders."
"What kind of injury could a Medic-nin not undo?" asked Sakura.
"Some poisons damage the chakra pathways to such an extent even a ninja healer can't undo it," said Kakashi. "There are other methods, but that's the most common and was a specialty of a jonin involved in the fight."
"Huh," said Naruto. "So these guys are farmers and stuff?"
"Right," said Kakashi, setting a pebble into place on the map. "There's this place. The leader of the group was Hipari Patarilo. Short guy but apparently charismatic and quite skilled before he decided that he'd support the village in a less active role. The people staying there named it the 'Hippie Commune' in his honor."
"Huh," repeated Naruto. "So what's the mission?"
"Apparently they're having a little bug problem," said Kakashi.
"Bugs?" asked Naruto, curious.
"Bugs?" asked Sasuke, sneering.
"Bugs?" asked Sakura, hoping that didn't mean...
"They've understated the difficulty of this," said the Hokage, sitting back and considering things.
"How so?" asked one of the jonin.
"The insects of the Forest Of Lost Hope are unusual," said the Hokage. "They are normally quite tolerant, even friendly, towards humans. If they turned against humans for some reason, they would be quite dangerous as they are:"
