FutureKen: Forward To The Past [Episode 226057]

by Kestral

Genma was not a happy individual.

The ungrateful boy had been sucked into the bowels of hell instead of a demon being summoned to his location.

The meeting with Nodoka had not gone well at all.

The silvery tray glistened, the layer of water inside it sparkling in the sunlight.

With Nodoka watching, he applied the three drops of oil and recited the prayer. Oil, tray, and prayer he'd run across in that Tibetan temple. He'd practiced the moves until he had them down perfectly, which had required another year spent in that hidden refuge.

The flickering image, seen as if through a great distance, appeared again.

Nodoka watched, still not entirely happy with Genma having sent their son to Hell. Knowing that Ranma was alive, was associating with girls, and fighting demons made things a little better. A tiny bit better.

"Is that the same girl, now older?" asked Nodoka as the images flickered along in apparently random order.

"I... think so," said Genma, watching as well. Inside he was a little alarmed at the idea of Ranma getting close to even a demon-girl before the Tendo arrangement could be hammered down on him.

"These images indicate great dangers to him, don't they?" asked Nodoka.

"Well, of course, best way to train," said Genma, glad that at least SOMETHING had gone right.

"So what do I got to see around... whoa," said Ranma.

"Yo," said Ranma-2.

"That's ME?!" asked Ranma.

"Yup, I'm you, sorta," said Ranma-2, clicking another setting and reverting back to Rock. "That's just a hologram, I don't think it'll fool anyone, but it's also my next upgrade. That way if someone attacks, they might get thrown off for a moment by me being able to switch places with you."

Ranma nodded. His old man had drilled that into his head. Anything Goes style meant taking whatever momentary advantage you could, and then expanding it. One of those basic tenets of the Art. "So what about girls? Will they ever make sense to me?"

"I kind of doubt it," said Rock. "You might be able to understand Roll though."

"She's a girl though," pointed out Ranma.

"Yeah, but she's actually a lot more straightforward and easier to understand than a human girl," said Rock. "Human motivations can get pretty tangled."

"Why's that?" asked Ranma.

"I think it's because you can't defrag," mused Rock.
