Nabiki thoughtfully took the letter from one of her father's hands. Yup. An audit. Which apparently had already gone over the previous tax records for the past century. This was mainly to give her father an opportunity to provide documentation to prove that he'd paid all these taxes that were due. With accumulated interest.
Hearing the phone ring, Nabiki was a little distracted as she went to go answer it.
Ranma was quite aware of the black-clad men approaching him. So was Akane. So were Ranma's kunoichi.
"Ranma Saotome?" asked one of the men, bowing slightly. "The Emperor would like to speak with you."
"Some new loony magical prince type out to kidnap me?" asked Akane.
"I'm sorry, and you are whom?" asked the black-suited one.
"Akane Tendo," said Akane, waiting for it.
"No, I don't recall that name coming up."
"So, whatcha need?" asked Ranma, feeling the shadow of doom upon him. Well, maybe not doom so much as one of those inconvenient adventure thingies.
"To take you to see the Emperor, Mister Saotome."
"We're his kunoichi squad, can we come?" asked one of the kunoichi.
The man in black considered that and made a gesture. "Yes. Though you would not be allowed to attend the meeting itself. What about you 'Akane Tendo' - are you one of Mister Saotome's retainers or employees?"
"Hah!" hahhed Akane. "As if!"
thump thump thump
Akane blinked as she realized everyone was leaving without her. "Uhm. Which Emperor anyway? Some mobile island or something again?"
"No, Miss, the Emperor of Japan," said the man-in-black as he got in the car.
"Oh." Akane blinked, trying to figure out what to do about it as the cars drove slowly away.
Pluto chose the first disaster/threat/challenge for Tatewaki Kuno and his family. The only difficulty had been WHAT to hit him with. It had to be low level enough for the gradual escalation of difficulty, yet nasty enough to be a 'bane from the gods' while having some relation to the swordsman's shortcomings.
Fortunately, Pluto had been able to find something appropriate for the occasion.
