Once upon a time, in a Multiverse perhaps not so far away as one might think...
There was a certain Timeline Cluster in which things had gone somewhat differently from most of their neighboring Timeline Clusters.
And in this certain Timeline Cluster, in most of the Timelines, Earth was the Planet of the Cars.
Or to be more accurate, it was the Planet of the Intelligent Vehicles, with the Non-Intelligent (or rather, Non-Sapient) Vehicles being the animal equivalent..
Though there were many, many kinds of Intelligent Vehicles, they were actually all the same species (if not exactly the same subspecies), and were all able to interbreed through the same kind of Factory Complexes (which were separete and different from all the Factory Complexes of the different kinds of animal equivalent). They also all had the same general type of 'invisible hands' and such, as a general rule, though some things were different depending on the gender.
And near the edge of said Timeline Cluster, where the Timelines tangled and fused together with the Timelines from the different Timeline Clusters around them...
Something was happening.
Something a bit strange, even by the standards of that part of the Multiverse.
